Last week, the staff at our Mt. Lebanon school participated in a chili and soup cookoff! Teachers could sign up to enter either a soup or chili recipe, and all of our staff got to enjoy all of the entries and vote for their favorite! We had a chili and a soup division. Congratulations to our winners: Miss Taylor for best chili and Miss Jamie K. and Miss Jamie G. for best soup!

The Pre-K students in New Castle made homemade Play-Doh. For this activity, they were given measuring cups and spoons, a bowl, flour, sprinkles, oil, cream of tartar, salt, water, and a mixing spoon. The students started by identifying the ingredients and the measuring utensils. Then, they took turns measuring and mixing the different ingredients. We passed the bowl around the table, allowing each friend a chance to mix the dough and explore its texture.

Engaging with Black history is essential for students, leaders and global citizens, as it fosters cultural competency, highlights systemic injustice and develops necessary leadership skills in a diverse world.

This Black History Month is a reminder of the generations that fought for inclusion in history, despite resistance to their humanity. As we honor this centenary, the message remains clear: Black history is American history.
