A community and household-based health care initiative of Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter, Daughter of Dr. Humaira Khanum, a renowned Obstetrician & Gynecologist of Rangpur to utilize the skills of the trained persons. JivitA Bangladesh’ by recruiting over 700 male and female young staff to collect data on nutrition status and other health status as well as giving interventions to reduce illness and deaths with external funding like Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the University. Now because of scarcity of funds and diversion of resource to Covid -19, no more research funds are available to continue the work and thus skills of all these 700 trained staff hailing from Gaibandha are unutilized and they are jobless. To make use of the skills of the trained persons, Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter, Daughter of Dr. Humaira Khanum, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynecologist of Rangpur, has
planned a community and household-based health care platform to serve all age population at the household levels in Gaibandha district. To address all family members’ health care needs in a sustainable manner, these well-trained young women can provide counseling for an essential service package (ESP) and increase poor and underserved populations’ access to essential maternal, newborn, child health, family planning (FP) and reproductive health services initiating
at their doorsteps. They will also deliver elderly wellness care at homes and refer to the clinics and physicians as per their needs. The staff will provide counseling services, home care, home verbal screening for NCDs, urine incontinence, uterine prolapse, male conditions, home checkup with testing Kit and instruments, referral as well as cheap transportation, physiotherapy and exercise instruments and equipment. We will collaborate with the Gaibandha members of Bangladesh Doctors’ Foundation as Clinical Support Partner and with other clinical primary, secondary and tertiary facilities as referral centers.
