Speaker Info:
Dr. Javed Mahmood is presently working as an Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator in the Dept. of Radiation Oncology, School of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA. Mahmood Lab is focused on lung, pancreas, and prostate cancer research and developing new anti-cancer drugs that can lead to human clinical trials (bench side to bed side). Mahmood lab operates in close collaboration with the medical physics team to discover novel anti-cancer molecules to sensitize the cutting-edge radiotherapy technology using Proton Beam Radiation at Maryland Proton Treatment Center (MPTC). Mahmood lab is also focused to develop novel immunotherapy and thermal therapy to treat cancer. Dr. Mahmood has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles in world famous medical journals including the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Dr. Mahmood has strong research collaborations with Vanderbilt University, New York Medical College, Harvard Medical School, Georgetown University, and Johns Hopkins University, USA [Dr. Gregg Semenza, Noble prize winner in Medicine 2019].
Dr. Mahmood worked globally. He graduated from Dhaka Dental College, Bangladesh, obtained a PhD degree in Tissue Engineering from the Hokkaido University, Japan and post-doctoral fellowship in Applied Molecular Oncology from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto University, Canada. He worked in the Institute of Nephrology Faculty of Medicine, Niigata University, Japan as a Lecturer, Visiting Professor at UiTM University, Malaysia, and Research Associate and Team lead at the STARR Center of Innovation of Toronto University, Canada.
