Our Story
“Shorno Konnya” is Adolescent sexual and reproductive health awareness program. This is spread awareness to prevent early marriage, pregnancy and other’s. The estimated maternal mortality ratio was 170 deaths per 100,000 live births in Bangladesh at that year of 2013, which means that there were approximately 5,304 maternal deaths in Bangladesh in that year.
Shorno Konnya came up with the thought to empower girls at her very first age of menstruation, as menstruation is the sign that the girl is now capable of child birth, so that she could educate herself about the proper age of marriage, drawbacks of early marriage, risks related to early pregnancy, malnutrition and alike. From this thought of her she made another social awareness building program “ShornoKonnya”- Voice of Girl, later renamed as “Alo Asbeie” – time to change the world.
“ShornoKonnya” went to every corner of Bangladesh where women, especially girls, do not have access to information regarding safe menstrual hygiene management, sexual and reproductive health management and other information that they need to step into adulthood with proper knowledge, safety and understanding. In Bangladesh, due to cultural and societal barriers, girls are not offered with proper knowledge and understanding of menstruation, sexual and reproductive health management and early marriage and pregnancy.
