An out-patient dispensary was established by Dhaka Cantonment Board in 1962 to provide treatment facilities to the officers and staff of the cantonment board and the inhabitants residing in and around the cantonment area with only 2 (two) Medical officers and few staff, but after liberation the demand for service has been increased manifold as because, there was no public hospi
tal to cater the health care facilities to the people of this area. in 1976, the cantonment Board has taken up expansion programme for Comilla, Chittagong, Jessore and Rangpur cantonment dispensaries into hospital including Dhaka cantonment Dispensary . the then Hon,ble President in his budget speech for 1976-77 declared to include in ADP for up gradation of the hospital but unfortunately it could not be materialized. On july 15, 1976 with the help of some philanthropist in the society the than Secretary, Ministry of Defence commissioned the 10 (ten) bedded hospital and since then it is being maintainde by the cantonment Board as cantonment General Hospital, considering the importance and necessity some philanthropist has come up to contribute voluntarily the hospital has been raised to 34 (thirty four) beds including 20 (twenty) general bed , 11 (eleven) Cabins and 3 (three) post –operative cabins. On April,20 1999 the than hon,ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid down the foundation stone. The Cantonment General Hospital new Building (Siraj-Khaleda Memorial Cantonment Board General Hospital) and well laid out premises have been aesthetically created to cater adequate space for indoor patients, outdoor patients, Separate Female & Male Wards, Doctors and Specialists Chambers, Adm. Section, Dispensary, OTs, Delivery Rooms, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacy, Orthopedic, Surgery Deptt. and to facilitate efficient functioning and availability of round the clock medical facilities in the complex. In the newly created Hospital complex the Siraj-Khaleda Memorial Cantonment Board General Hospital Unit is functioning through Cantt. Board's own set up and specialized, Modern Health care services have been made available through the service provider M/s N.S. Surgical & Hospital Equipments, Civil Lines. It is expected that this concept will go a long way in meeting the public aspirations regarding availability of specialized, upgraded medical services for the civilians within Cantonment Area. As such further streamlining of the concept & set up is under consideration.
