CIRDAP –NIRDPR International Training Programme : Advancing Geo Informatics for Sustainable Rural Development

The CIRDAP NIRDPR International Training Programme on Geo Informatics Applications in Rural Development is successfully progressing at NIRDPR Hyderabad India.

On the third day of the programme, participants engaged in a series of insightful and knowledge driven sessions focusing on practical applications and regional best practices. Key sessions included Geo informatics applications in water resources highlighting best practices from the Asia Pacific region, Geo informatics in forestry and ecology with a focus on sustainable environmental management, and Geo informatics applications in fisheries showcasing experiences and learnings from across Asia and the Pacific.

The day also featured an interactive group work session where delegates actively collaborated on natural resources management using geo informatics tools and approaches.

This dynamic exchange of knowledge and experiences continues to strengthen regional cooperation and capacity building for sustainable rural development.

🌍 Inauguration of International Training Programme on Geo-Informatics Applications in Rural Development at NIRDPR, Hyderabad, India

CIRDAP, in collaboration with NIRDPR, successfully inaugurated the International Training Programme on “Geo-Informatics Applications in Rural Development” on 30th March 2026 at NIRDPR, Hyderabad, India.
Funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, the programme was formally inaugurated and welcomed by HE Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director General of CIRDAP.

The programme brought together 17 distinguished participants from CIRDAP Member Countries including Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, along with representatives from NIRDPR and CIRDAP.

The training programme features sessions on innovative geo-informatics practices in rural development, applications in agriculture across the Asia-Pacific region, and country presentations by delegates.
This dynamic learning platform aims to strengthen regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the use of geo-informatics for sustainable rural development.

DG CIRDAP Visits Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Cochin, India

HE Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director General of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific, visited ICAR - Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute in India, accompanied by Dr. S. Glory Swarupa from Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth.

During the visit, productive discussions were held with Dr. Grinson George, Director of CMFRI, focusing on strengthening collaboration in the areas of sustainable livelihoods, fisheries research, and rural development.
