BITES AND STINGS: WHAT TO DO FOR BEE 🐝, SCORPION 🦂, DOG 🐕 AND SNAKE 🐍 BITES.
Introduction:
Bites and stings happen when animals or insects use their teeth or stingers to protect themselves. While some may cause only minor pain or swelling, others can lead to serious health problems like infections, allergic reactions or poisoning. Knowing what to do quickly can help prevent complications and save lives.
Here is a simple way to handle each:

1. Bee Sting;
What Happens? Pain, swelling, redness and itching at the sting site.
What to Do:
- Remove the stinger by scraping it off gently (don’t use tweezers).
- Wash the area with soap and water.
- Apply a cold pack to reduce swelling.
- Give painkillers or antihistamines if needed.
- Seek help if the person has difficulty breathing or signs of allergy.
2. Scorpion Sting:
What Happens? Pain, swelling, tingling and sometimes muscle twitching or drooling.
What to Do:
- Keep the affected limb raised.
- clean the area
- Apply a cold compress.
- Take the person to the hospital, especially children or if severe symptoms appear.
3. Dog Bite:
What Happens? Wound, bleeding, risk of infection and rabies.
What to Do:
- Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and clean water for 10–15 minutes.
- Stop bleeding with a clean cloth.
- Cover the wound with a clean dressing.
- Seek medical care for a tetanus shot and rabies vaccination.
- Report the dog to local health authorities.
4. Snake Bite:
What Happens? Pain, swelling, dizziness, weakness or trouble breathing (especially with venomous snakes).
What to Do:
- Keep the person calm and still to slow the spread of venom.
- Do not cut the wound or suck the venom.
- Do not apply a tourniquet.
- Remove tight clothing or jewelry near the bite.
- Take the person to the hospital immediately.
- If possible, remember the snake’s color and shape for identification.
