Academic Session Series | Neuro-Oncology

The Department of Clinical Oncology conducted the second academic session of the ongoing Neuro-Oncology Series, focusing on the treatment of Astrocytoma.

Following the previous session, which covered basic neuroanatomy and diagnostic approaches, this presentation concentrated on therapeutic strategies, including risk stratification, surgical principles, radiotherapy planning concepts, dose considerations, and the role of systemic therapy in astrocytoma management.

Special emphasis was placed on modern radiotherapy techniques, including precise target volume delineation, IMRT optimization, and evolving evidence guiding multimodality treatment decisions.

Academic Session Series | Head & Neck Cancer

As part of our ongoing Academic Session Series on Head & Neck Cancer, the Department of Clinical Oncology conducted a focused session on Malignancies of the Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinuses.

The discussion addressed the complex anatomy of the sinonasal region, patterns of extension to the orbit and skull base, histopathological diversity, and staging challenges. Particular emphasis was placed on advanced IMRT-based radiotherapy planning, including meticulous target volume delineation, OAR dose constraints, the role of Simultaneous Integrated Boost (SIB) techniques and emerging adaptive planning concepts in improving conformality and accommodating anatomical changes during treatment.

The Department of Radiotherapy is pleased to initiate an Academic Session Series on Neuro-Oncology, beginning with a comprehensive session on Adult Gliomas.

The inaugural session focused on contemporary classification, molecular characterization, evolving therapeutic approaches in adult gliomas. The discussion emphasized evidence-based practice and the integration of precision medicine in neuro-oncology care.

As the world marks World Cancer Day, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital proudly joined the global movement under the theme “United by Unique” (2025-2027)— highlighting that every cancer journey is personal, and every patient deserves individualized care.

The day began with an awareness rally from the RMCH outdoor premises, culminating at Shapla Chottor., RMCH premises. The rally was attended by the Director of the hospital, Bridgadier General Masud Ul Islam, Prof Dr. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Dr Julekha Khatun(Asst Professor), Dr Abdul Karim, (Asst Prof), Dr Nazmul Kabir Shaon( Asst Prof), Dr Ayesha Khatun( Medical Officer) along with residents and trainees of radiotherapy and staff. The event concluded with the symbolic release of balloons, representing hope, solidarity, and renewed commitment in the fight against cancer.

Following the rally, a CME session titled “Cancer: Mostly Preventable” was held, where Dr Afia Farhana delivered an insightful presentation emphasizing prevention, early detection, and lifestyle modification as powerful tools against cancer. She also emphasizes patient centered care, empathy, resilience in cancer care.
