Professor Anatoly A. Lobenko

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of wonderful person Anatoly A. Lobenko. He was a famous scientist, academician of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the International Academy of Informatization, honorary member of the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. He was the founder and head of " Ukrainian research institution of maritime medicine"(1997-2005)
Anatoly A. Lobenko devoted his whole life to medicine. He graduated from the Military Medical School in Odessa. In 1964, he graduated from Odessa Medical Institute. He worked as a ship doctor for the Black Sea Shipping Company.
Anatoly A. Lobenko creatively combined administrative and therapeutic activities with the scientific and pedagogical work. In 1985, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Medical aspects of the injuries to the seafarers or to the crew of marine ships. In 1986, he was elected as the Head of the Department of Marine Medicine the Faculty of Advance Medical studies (Odessa Medical Institute). In 1987, he became the first professor of marine medicine in Ukraine.
A.A. Lobenko is the author of more than 800 scientific papers, including 20 monographs, 9 study guides, 30 inventions, he was the supervisor of studies for 17 doctoral student and 46 candidates of medical sciences.
A.A. Lobenko was a founder of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, he was WHO’s expert in marine medicine, member of the world council of Marine Physicians, member of the World Organization of Orthopedic Trauma Surgeons. He was the member of the editorial boards for several leading scientific journals.
In 1990-1994 he was the member of parliament of two convocations.
He was an amazing, versatile person, with a good heart. Who loved his live, work, family, marine medicine, Odessa, he passed a piece of himself to numerous students, continuing the work of their teacher.
The Eternal Memory of the Great Man will forever remain in our hearts !!!
