This is one of the most interesting and complete organs of the human body. In fact, it is the only organ directly linked to all the functions of the body and mind. This envelope of more than 2 square metres surrounds our entire body and represents a veritable spread-out brain. It is irrigated and innervated in a remarkable way all over its surface and represents an
E X T R A O R D I N A R Y information system directly linked to our brain.
The skin's primary role is to P R O T E C T. It acts as a barrier to the outside world. It protects us from microbial and physical aggression (heat, blows, dirt, etc.), and this is its best-known function.
It also has a respiratory function insofar as it allows skin ventilation, which assists the lungs in their role of assimilating energy from the air. However, it goes further than simple gas exchange, as it receives and transforms solar radiation through its role in vitamin D metabolism. Thanks to more than 700,000 nerve sensors, it enables us to sense our environment, whether physical (touch), human (epidermal and emotional reactions) or thermal (temperature).
The skin is also one of our body's 5 major emunctories, and also fulfils a role in the body's entire E L I M I N A T I O N system. When the kidneys, bladder, large intestine and lungs are tired or clogged, it's the skin that takes over and helps to evacuate, through perspiration in particular, but also odours, dermatitis, etc., the toxins that the body is unable to eliminate in any other way.
Finally, it's interesting to know that the skin and, among other things, the 'skin of the muscles', i.e. what we call the 'fascias',
M E M O R I S E S our experiences and emotions. This helps us to understand why touch and certain techniques for working on the body, such as Shiatsu or reflexology, have astonishing results, particularly in the case of psychosomatic symptoms.
The skin is the body organ that is most representative of our ability to H E A L. This miracle, the underlying cause of which is still unexplained, enables an 'organism' to repair and rebuild itself, and is astonishing in its strength as it is in its effectiveness. All this takes place through a process that has a certain connection with the phenomena of cancerisation, and helps us to understand that certain healings of trauma, which have taken place in difficult psychological contexts, sometimes lead to cancerisation of the recently traumatised area.
