Sourcing vintage fabrics and gems in rural India. 💛🧡❤️
The first time I came to India 10 years ago, was in between my university years when I was studying fashions windy in London. I came to source fabrics and meet artisans in South India, and then that journey turned into a spiritual one between ashtrays and prayers. Two years ago I came to Rajasthan to dive into Indian craftsmanship even more and I discovered Fulkari, an amazing Punjabi Fabric which is made of a hand loomed cotton with silk appliqués. These fabrics were made specially for brides and give on their wedding da as a gift. The colors are earthy, naturally dyed and the purest cotton from northern region of India Punjab.
We have hand selected a few Fulkarisfrom Kunals shop in Punjab whome I had met 2 years ago during my research trip through Pushkar, jaipur, Jodhpur and many villages in Rajasthan.
Working with these fabrics is a very delicate thing as they are more than 70 years old and there are no 2 of the same one. They really feel like a precious peace of wisdom to preserve. We will be making just a few bespoke really special pieces out of these!
What you see here are also some BANJARA community belts and ornaments. The Banjara communities are found in Gujarat, Karnataka and Andra pradesh - but more of that in another post.
2nd collection is going to be so special! Can’t wait to share it with you in May 💫
