As we build momentum toward on 4 February, it’s exciting to spotlight how the is transforming cancer care across the continent.

One standout example is — a Europe-wide initiative co-funded under the EU4Health programme that is bringing inter-specialty cancer training to over 100 cancer centres.

This project brings together oncologists, surgeons, nurses, and allied professionals to train as one, integrating their expertise to deliver more holistic patient care.

By breaking down silos between specialties and strengthening collaboration, INTERACT-EUROPE 100 is helping ensure that education meets real-world needs and ultimately improves outcomes for patients across Europe.

As we approach World Cancer Day on 4 February, the recent report ‘Harnessing AI for Cancer Care in Europe’ highlights how could transform cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship if deployed responsibly and equitably.

🤖📈 The European Cancer Organisation calls for clear standards, strong ethics, workforce training and robust data to ensure AI truly benefits patients and health systems.

💡AI has the potential to speed up screening results, improve diagnostic precision, tailor treatments and accelerate research — but only with the right policies and safeguards in place.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month is ending, but the work to eliminate cervical cancer carries on every day.

Europe has everything needed to prevent this disease, including HPV vaccination and screening. What we do not yet have is equal access across all communities. 🌍

Our ‘Closing the Gaps’ report shows that many countries still use outdated screening models, and that women with lower income, disabilities, migrant backgrounds or reduced digital access are far less likely to be reached. These inequalities must be addressed. 📘

Moving to more accessible screening, improving follow-up pathways and offering options like self-collection can help protect everyone, no matter their circumstances. 💉

Women across Europe face a variety of inequalities when trying to access effective healthcare. This can and must change!

On 28 January, the European Society of Gynecology Oncology (ESGO) will host a High-Level Policy Event at the European Parliament bringing together policymakers, clinicians, patient advocates and key stakeholders to discuss how to address a woman’s unmet health needs in Europe.

The event, hosted by MEPs Vytenis Andriukaitis, Tilly Metz and Romana Jerković, will focus on persistent inequalities across prevention, diagnosis and treatment – and, crucially, on how more coordinated and patient-centred approaches can help close these gaps across Europe.

📌 During the discussion, ESGO will:
• launch its position paper, and
• present a proposal for an EU-wide network of Centres of Excellence for Women’s Health, aimed at improving quality of care, reducing disparities and supporting Member States in implementing evidence-based standards.

Meet the leader who helped change the course of cancer screening in Europe 💡

The European Cancer Screening and Early Detection Policy Summit is proud to welcome Vlastimil Válek, former Minister of Health of the Czech Republic.

During the 2022 Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, and under his tenure as Health Minister, updated screening recommendations were adopted, expanding EU guidance to include prostate, lung and gastric cancer screening.

This milestone marked a major advance for cancer prevention and early detection across Europe. 🔬

Hear the details of how it came to be and explore how the EU-funded PRAISE-U, SOLACE and TOGAS projects can build on that success.
