Secondary Cleft Rhinoplasty: one of the most challenging procedures in nasal reconstruction.

This patient was born with a cleft palate and underwent surgery during childhood. As she grew older, the nose developed deformities typical of cleft anatomy, including asymmetry, poor tip support and structural collapse, resulting in a shape that did not harmonize with her facial features.
Secondary cleft rhinoplasty is one of the most complex forms of nasal surgery. The goal is not simply cosmetic refinement; it often requires rebuilding the nasal framework.
In this case, cartilage was harvested from the ear to reconstruct the nasal structure, restore support and reshape the nose.

Over the past few days, my return to Brussels felt like moving between different worlds.

The journey began before dawn in a minibus leaving Doha and heading north toward the border and Dammam. From there it continued across Saudi Arabia toward Jeddah on the Red Sea. A night flight then carried me across continents to Paris, followed by a final high speed train to Brussels.

On a map it looks like a simple line. In reality it was a succession of borders, waiting, uncertainty, and emotions that are difficult to describe.

The Middle East is living through moments of instability and fear. Wars, tensions, and struggles for power remind us how fragile peace truly is. Behind every headline there are families protecting their children, people worrying about their homes, and communities hoping simply to live another day with dignity.

I was fortunate to return safely to Brussels, to my work, to my patients, and to the life I have built there. Yet traveling while so many people cannot move freely, while others remain trapped between conflict, politics, and decisions made far above their lives, leaves a heavy feeling.

Wars rarely concern the people who suffer the most. They often grow from power, interests, and ambitions that forget the human cost.

No family should wonder whether their home will still exist tomorrow. No child should grow up learning the sound of sirens instead of laughter.

Living between two worlds, the Middle East and Europe, I feel both gratitude and responsibility. Gratitude for being safe today and responsibility to never become indifferent.

Peace should never be seen as naive. It is the most courageous ambition humanity can have.

My thoughts remain with everyone living through uncertainty in the Middle East.

And thank you to everyone who reached out during the past days. Your kindness and support meant more than words can express.
