The Ashtanga Space Shala Brussels

The Ashtanga Space Shala Brussels Traditional Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Brussels Ashtanga yoga is a traditional form of yoga which was taught by Sri K.

Pattabhi Jois in Mysore (South India) and is still taught by Nancy Gilgoff at the House of Yoga and Zen on Maui (Hawaii). This highly dynamic system involves a synchronisation of breath, bandhas (energy locks) and drishti (gazing point). This produces a deep internal heat and a sweat which purifies the body while calming the mind. Through a regular (daily) practice of Ashtanga, the body becomes free from impurities, stronger and more flexible, while the mind becomes calm. The traditional method of learning Ashtanga is the so called 'Mysore style class' which means that the students learn the postures one by one, without skipping postures or modifying the sequence. This is how this method is still taught in Mysore (South India) nowadays. It is fundamental to respect the order of the sequence as every posture is a preparation for the next one . Only by respecting the traditional method, the students can reap all the benefits of this ancient practice.

Aṣṭāṅga Yoga @ our Shala

Aṣṭāṅga (Ashtanga) yoga is a traditional form of yoga which comes from Mysore (South India) where it was taught by the late Śrī K. Pattabhi Jois. This highly dynamic system involves a synchronisation of breath, bandha (energy locks) and dṛṣṭi (gazing points). This produces a deep internal heat and a sweat which purifies the body while calming the mind. Through a regular practice of Aṣṭāṅga, the body becomes free from impurities, stronger and more flexible, while the mind becomes calm. The traditional method of learning Aṣṭāṅga is the so called 'Mysore style class' which means that the students learn the postures one by one, without skipping postures or deviating from the sequence. This is how this method is still taught in Mysore (South India) nowadays . It is fundamental to respect the order of the sequence as every posture is a preparation for the next one . Only by respecting the traditional method, the students can reap all the benefits of this ancient practice. The teachers at the Ashtanga Space are all qualified, have been practicing Aṣṭāṅga daily for a number of years and are committed to teach this method in the traditional way as it was taught by Śrī K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore (India), without changing the order or modifying the sequence of asanas (postures). Francesca Di Rosso is the founder of the Shala and she has been authorised by Manju Pattabhi Jois to teach primary, intermediate and third series (advanced A).
