Today is one of the four great Buddhist holidays, in Tibetan called LHA BAB DÜCHEN. We celebrate Buddha's descent from the god realm Trayastrimsa.

The Buddha’s mother Mayadevi was because of her very good karma reborn in the god's realm Tush*ta. She came down to the realm Trayastrimsa ("Heaven of the 33"), where Buddha had gone to meet her. To repay her kindness and to liberate her, and also to benefit the gods, Buddha taught there for three months the Dharma.
When he was about to return to our world, the gods Indra and Brahma manifested three stairs of 80,000 yojanas each reaching this world in Sankisa. As the Buddha walked down the central one, they accompanied him to his left and right carrying umbrellas to honor him. He descended to earth in Sankisa, which is located in modern Uttar Pradesh and counted among the eight holy places.
When Buddha came back after three months of absence, his students were so overjoyed that this day became a major holiday in Buddhism.

They say that this is a 10 Million multiplier day: The karmic imprint of every positive and negative action multiplies 10 Million times.

At the conclusion of the Karma Guen program, it was formally announced that, in accordance with the noble aspirations expressed in the past by Lama Ole Nydhal and Hannah, and under the guidance of His Holiness the Karmapa, His Eminence Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche has most graciously accepted the request to bestow the exceedingly rare and precious Kagyu Ngagdzod Empowerments at Karma Guen in September 2027. This month-long occasion, embodying the blessings of the unbroken Kagyu lineage, shall stand as a momentous event in the history of our tradition, offering devoted practitioners an unparalleled opportunity to receive and uphold these profound and sacred transmissions.

The Kagyu Ngagdzod, one of the renowned Five Treasuries compiled by the great master Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye (1813–1899), known as Jamgon Kongtrul the Great, traces its origins to the sublime Vajrayana teachings brought from India to Tibet by Marpa the Great Translator. Preserved through the unbroken Kagyu lineage, it embodies the union of sutra and ta**ra, harmonizes view and practice, and presents the complete stages of the path to perfect enlightenment.

In the 19th century, foreseeing the imminent loss of many rare transmissions, Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye undertook the noble endeavor of journeying across Tibet to gather empowerments, instructions, and commentaries from authentic masters. Through his vast vision and tireless efforts, he safeguarded these treasures for future generations, thereby ensuring that the blessings of the lineage would not fade into obscurity.

These efforts culminated in the creation of the Five Treasuries, with the Kagyu Ngagdzod standing as a complete repository of ta***ic wisdom. Within it are preserved the profound practices of Mahamudra, the Six Yogas of Naropa, Chakrasamvara, Hevajra, Guhyasamaja, Vajrayogini, and countless other sacred transmissions. Each being a gateway to realization.

The Kagyu Ngagdzod is not merely a collection of texts, but a living lineage of empowerment and practice. It reflects Jamgon Kongtrul’s vast nonsectarian vision and continues to safeguard the blessings of the Kagyu tradition for the benefit of all beings. Successive incarnations of Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche have faithfully upheld this noble task, preserving, practicing, and transmitting the Five Treasuries with unwavering diligence, thus maintaining their integrity and ensuring their continuity for practitioners worldwide.

To participate in this empowerment is to connect directly with the blessings of Marpa and the great lineage masters. It is a rare and precious opportunity to receive the living transmission of the Kagyu teachings, to gather immense merit, and to establish the most auspicious conditions for entering Marpa’s profound ta***ic path in service to all sentient beings.

Further details and information regarding this most auspicious occasion will be shared in due course.
