🌟 Grateful to be “Chef of the Day” at Dag van de Wetenschap! 🌿

A huge thank you to Comon.Gent for the wonderful opportunity to be Chef of the Day during the Dag van de Wetenschap at De Krook!

It was such a joy to share MaryaNutri’s insect- and algae-based cookies with curious visitors — and to see so many people open to discovering sustainable, nutritious, and future-ready foods.

This experience reminded me why I began this journey: to fight malnutrition through innovation and empathy. Seeing both children and adults explore new flavors with open minds was deeply inspiring.

A special thanks as well to the team from Ghent University’s Food Market Research Hub — Profs. Hans De Steur, Joachim Schouteten, and Christine Yung Hung, — for their fascinating insights into how we experience food through our senses and emotions.

And of course, it was an honor to have Rector Petra De Sutter, Vicerector Herwig Reynaert, and Schepen Astrid De Bruycker join in the tasting!

Let’s keep bringing science, sustainability, and good food together — one delicious bite at a time. 🍪💚

💚 What a Day to Remember! 🌿

I’m filled with gratitude after being the Chef of the Day during Dag van de Wetenschap at De Krook, thanks to the amazing team at Comon.Gent!

It was such a beautiful experience to share MaryaNutri’s insect- and algae-based cookies with so many curious and open-minded people. Watching visitors — young and old — taste something new, smile, and ask thoughtful questions truly touched my heart.

Coming from Kenya, where I personally witnessed the impact of malnutrition, I promised myself as a child that I would one day be part of the solution. Standing there, sharing nutritious and sustainable bites with the world, I felt that little girl’s dream come to life. 💫

A big thank you to Ghent University’s Food Market Research Hub — Profs. Hans De Steur, Joachim Schouteten, and Christine Yung Hung, — for making food research so engaging and inspiring. And it was such an honor to see Rector Petra De Sutter, Vicerector Herwig Reynaert, and Schepen Astrid De Bruycker join in the tasting!

After months of baking, testing, and refining recipes, I’m thrilled to share that MaryaNutri — Crisp & Spice Tomorrow is now officially live 🎉

Our Belgian-made fortified protein biscuits bring together food science, sustainability, and taste — made with wholesome grains, plant proteins, algae protein, and insect protein.
Each small batch is crafted to show how nutritious foods can also be delicious, accessible, and culturally rooted.

This first Kickstarter campaign supports our production in Belgium, scaling the biscuits that started at Wintercircus Ghent toward future community-nutrition collaborations in Kenya and Tanzania.

We’ve created insect-powered protein biscuits and food bars that combine bold innovation, sustainable nutrition, and purpose-driven science.

💪 In Belgium, they meet the growing demand for high-protein functional snacks, especially for sports and recovery.
🌍 In Africa and Asia, they offer shelf-stable, nutritious solutions for fighting malnutrition in children and vulnerable communities.

🦗 Bio-ingenieurstudent Maryam Imbumi wil de wereld voeden met insectenmengsels. Nadat ze eerder via haar startup MaryaNutri een met insecten verrijkte pap heeft ontwikkeld voor ondervoede kinderen, stort Imbumi zich nu op snacks voor een breder publiek. Our mission began with a simple but powerful idea: tackle child malnutrition and promote climate-resilient nutrition using sustainable insect protein.

Last Tuesday, we officially launched our first products — protein-packed biscuits and food bars — at Wintercircus Ghent, and we’re so proud that this moment is now being shared with a wider audience through VILT.be.

What an incredible moment for MaryaNutri! 🎉
We’re thrilled to see our official launch featured by Wintercircus Ghent — the place that helped bring our vision to life.

Yesterday, we introduced our very first protein-packed biscuits and food bars, enriched with sustainable mealworm protein 🐛💪 — a bold step in our mission to fight child malnutrition through nutritious, insect-based food solutions.

This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Wintercircus Fund and VLAIO Subsidy, which gave us the space and resources to grow from a bold idea to a tangible impact.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to taste, celebrate, and support this mission. This is just the beginning. 💚
