BCT - Brussels Childbirth Trust Are you looking for...
Pregnancy information? Prenatal classes? Postnatal support? Playgroups... and more? Then you've come to the right place! Join us, too!

With a truly international membership, the BCT is a great place to make friends for you and your children. BCT is Belgium’s leading source of pregnancy and parenting information in English. We have provided prenatal and postnatal support to (expectant) parents since 1978. We are member based. We are the largest International family community in Belgium with members from over 70 countries. This is the official BCT page. BCT is an entirely volunteer-run non-profit organization that provides help, support, and friendship to expectant parents and families in Belgium. Our services cover pregnancy information and prenatal courses facilitated by certified antenatal teachers and peer-to-peer postnatal support. We also organize year round events and activities where our members can socialize, share ideas and concerns, and make friends. Our courses, services, and events are an invaluable resource for English speaking families and parents-to-be, in the greater Brussels area. We also provide continued support throughout their wonderful journey of parenthood. We have a dedicated team of volunteers who are all members and parents themselves. They are hosting playgroups most days of the week at our beautiful Clubhouse in Ixelles. They are also organising regular meet-ups and play dates in various local neighbourhoods in Brussels and beyond. They are providing information, peer-to-peer support such as our babywearing service, cloth nappy information or sling library, and encouragement by phone and email, as well as they organise our free Members’ library with about hundred selected books on pregnancy, child development and parenting plus a range of children books.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation!

All we do is based on the enthusiasm and dedication of those members who are prepared to give back to their community,
who would like to use their spare time in a meaningful way,
who would like to learn something new,
who would like to enrich their lives,
who would like to be part of a community,
who would like to meet new people and make new friends,
who would like to get involved and make a change,
who would like to spend time with their children while volunteering,
who would like to be a role model to their children...

Whatever motivates YOU to volunteer with us, we are so very grateful!

Wanna become a volunteer, too? Email Shelley at volunteering@bctbelgium.org and let her know what you are interested in and ask for current "vacancies".

How to Talk About and Deal with Death
An insightful article by grief counselor Sabrina Lengert published in the latest issue of Small Talk magazine, page 27.

"Death is a universal experience that affects us all, yet it’s a topic many adults avoid discussing, fearing it may upset their children.
However, children are naturally curious about life and death. If they sense that the topic is uncomfortable for adults, they may hesitate to ask questions, leaving them with unanswered concerns and unprocessed emotions.
But how can we talk to our children about death? What do they understand? How much can they handle? When is it too much? And when someone dies, how can we include them in the process and give them a chance to say goodbye?"

11 November is Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of WWI, and a bank holiday in Belgium. A few large battles during WWI took place in Belgium and if you haven't been yet to the city of Ypres with the surrounding battlefields and cemeteries why not go for a day trip with your school aged children?

We've put together a complete guide for a family visit in Ypres in the latest issue of Small Talk magazine on page 24.

Members access the mag via the dedicated newsletter or via our app (news).

To receive feedback on our Birth & Parenting courses is important for us, no matter what, but these words from recent participants do make us happy!

We run comprehensive preparation courses for CHILDBIRTH and EARLY PARENTING throughout the year. Our teachers take the time to teach all aspects of late pregnancy, labour, birth and the early days with the new baby in interactive group sessions that allow discussions and exchange and always finish with a REUNION of the group once all babies have arrived. Participants get to be part of our vibrant COMMUNITY and get access to pregnancy and parenting resources, information talks, events, useful services and all our PLAYGROUPS and other social activities.

Next IN-PERSON course with spaces:
*** for babies due in MARCH/APRIL 2025 starting 14 January
*** 17 hours of contact time (yes, we are taking the time and all our couples appreciated exactly that;-)
*** 1 teacher, Alison, our experienced and UK-qualified Prenatal Teacher
*** 4 weekday evening sessions & 3 Saturday daytime sessions in the Tervuren area
*** one course reunion
*** BCT family membership
