If one or more symptoms of PMS, such as fluid retention, anxiety, bloating and weight gain, food cravings, depression, breast swelling and tenderness and mood changes, impact you each month, then your hormones and your cycle are telling you something. More care, attention, connection and awareness are needed rather than just writing it off as being completely out of your control.
And what about period pain?! Just like PMS, it is NOT normal and it is so important that we understand this for ourselves as well as share this with younger women who may be just entering puberty. Not to make them feel 'abnormal' by any means if they do experience period pain, but to simply bring awareness to the fact that it is not something to put up with and endure because that's what we do as women. No, no and no.
Studies in Australia suggest that the prevalence of period pain in adolescent girls ranges from 80% - 93% (Hillen TI, et al, 1999). Surely a problem we want to get to the bottom of 🤔🧐
