How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) shaping your work today, and how could it support you better?

QUAMED, in partnership with Bee Skilled, is launching an initiative to design a practical, real-world AI learning experience specifically for pharmaceutical and supply chain professionals like you.

To ensure this programme is relevant, useful, and grounded in your daily challenges, we are inviting you to share your input through a short survey.

Your responses will directly influence the topics covered, the case studies demonstrated, and how this program would support your day-to-day work and decision-making.

In this survey, you will help us understand:

- How you currently use (or do not use) AI in your work
- Where you feel confident, and where you need support
- The most valuable areas for AI training in your context
- Your interest in participating in a structured AI masterclass

Duration: Takes just 5–6 minutes | Fully anonymous and confidential

For the month of March, we conducted a wide range of GSDP and GMP audits, MQAS audits, remote GSDP technical visits, and CAPA plan assessments across Africa, Europe, and Asia. It has been another dynamic and impactful month, reinforcing our commitment to strengthening quality assurance systems across regions.

We are particularly pleased to see continued growth in our Quality Certification Programme (QCP). Notably, one manufacturer approached us to apply for a QCP audit after finding that a previous Quamed GMP audit report not only helped improve their internal processes but also increased their visibility and access to new clients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) AMR Surveillance and Quality Assessment Collaborating Centres Network, established in 2016, has significantly contributed to global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance and capacity-building. It has grown from 18 to 36 centres across 20 countries by 2025, supporting the Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS) through the development of standards, capacity-building, and technical guidance. Despite its achievements, the network faces challenges such as limited geographical representation, lack of dedicated funding, and gaps in diagnostic infrastructure, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. To maximise its impact, the network must expand membership, improve output tracking, and advocate for sustainable financing while integrating AMR activities into broader health system strengthening initiatives. The network serves as a model for addressing global health challenges through collaboration, technical expertise, and strategic alignment.

South Africa is making a bold move to locally produce lenacapavir, a groundbreaking twice-yearly HIV prevention injection developed by Gilead Sciences, with support from Unitaid and United States Pharmacopeia (USP), a step that could transform access, strengthen Africa’s pharmaceutical independence, and accelerate the fight to end HIV on the continent by bringing production closer to those most affected.

On Monday, 9 March, Quamed’s Director, Ed Veerke, had the opportunity to present Quamed’s activities to the Director-General of the African Medicines Agency, H.E. Dr. Delese Mimi Darko and her team.

During the meeting, we discussed Quamed’s ongoing regulatory system capacity building and support to several African countries, including French speaking NRAs, our GMP and GSDP audits and assessments, and our database containing more than 600 assessment reports, frequently used and referred to by various procuring entities. We also presented the Quamed Learning online platform available for free to regulatory and industry experts to build GSDP capacity, and, last but not least, our Quality Certification Programme.

The discussions highlighted the common areas for strategic collaboration between Quamed and the AMA, and we look forward to further exploring these opportunities together.

During a visit to Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, QUAMED’s Executive Director had the opportunity to visit the warehouses of Asrames asbl. As recalled by its Director, Gaston Nyamambichi, the organization has been a member of QUAMED since the very beginning of the network.

ASRAMES began working on the concept of access to quality medicines already in the mid-1990s. They joined QUAMED when it was still a project hosted by the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium.

Despite the many challenges faced in the region since opening its doors in 1995, ASRAMES has built a sustainable model that continues to benefit a growing number of people. Over the years, it has also proven to be a trusted partner for numerous NGOs and international organizations, including the World Health Organization and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

During the visit, QUAMED also participated in a management meeting with ASRAMES leadership, including Board President Waso Misona and board members Dr. Prudence Mitangala and Dr. Jean-Bosco Kahindo. The discussion focused on the QCP certification process and opportunities related to the QUAMED Learning training courses.

Quamed’s Director had the pleasure of supporting the EAC Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM) in the mid-term review of its Strategic Plan (2020–2029).

As part of the process, a three-day multi-stakeholder consultative meeting (2–4 March 2026) brought together experts from EAC Partner States.

The depth of expertise in the room made the discussions extremely valuable and will contribute to strengthening the revised strategic plan for the coming years.

Many thanks to the RCE-VIHSCM and the University of Rwanda teams for the excellent organization and the very welcoming working environment.
