💡 Velvets can do more than frame a stage

At LUCA School of Arts, a highly reverberant concrete auditorium needed to be adapted to support the Audiovisual Arts & Film courses. The solution? Targeted acoustic treatment with carefully selected finishes.

We fitted the side walls with 9 cm acoustic material and finished them in blue sound-absorbing velvet, seamlessly matching the seating. The front wall received the same acoustic modification in black velvet, sharpening visual contrast and allowing the projection screen to stand out.

In a previous post, we explained how decibels work (go check it out if you haven’t seen it yet). Knowing this, we'd love to introduce our brand-new MaiaFoam!

This versatile fabric not only absorbs sound, it also reduces sound transmission. One layer reduces sound by 12 dB (Rw), two layers by 18 dB. Add a 30 cm air gap between those layers and reduction increases to 21 dB, three extra decibels with the same material. The same applies for 4-layer setups, when you add an airgap you'll reduce more sound transmitting through the fabrics.
