The Benefits of Self-Reflection
Not just in your career, but in your personal life as well.
I love practicing self-reflection because I truly believe it helps me grow and move forward.
Many years ago, in my early 20s, I remember being on the phone with a friend, and suddenly I heard myself moaning and complaining. But it wasn’t anything new—I was repeating the same frustrations over and over.
Standing in my kitchen, I felt how tired I was of hearing myself complain, how exhausted I was from going in circles. And if I was fed up with it, I wondered how my friend must feel listening to me go on.
That moment was a wake-up call. I realized I needed things to change, and the only way to do that was through self-reflection. Not to blame others, but to see how I could improve the situation.
Most of the time, it was me who needed to change — my actions, my choices, the things I was allowing in my life. I was also expecting others to do things for me, to make me happy. Those were the fears I was avoiding, the steps I was scared to take myself.
All these things I’d created—my habits, my mindset—were holding me back and making me miserable. The real turning point was understanding that I was responsible for my own happiness, and that I had the power to change.
Self-reflection isn’t about judgment; it’s about honest awareness and taking small, meaningful steps toward a better life.
