History of Ayurveda is linked with human history. The practice of medicine began with the management of health problems with locally available medicinal plants and hence every country had its own local traditional health practices. In India, at some stage the history of such practices where given some theoretical explanations and it slowly developed in to a system of medicine. Ayurveda also is such a system of medicine with a lot of theoretical foundations with strong footing of clinical experience. The word alternative medicine is used to denote all other systems of medicine or medical practices other than Allopathic medicine in some countries. In many countries where only allopathic medical practice is prevalent, Ayurveda is alternative. But in India before the colonial rule Ayurveda could satisfy the health needs of the people at large. In the states like Kerala in India, Ayurveda is still contributing a major share in meeting the health needs of the people even today. Nowadays in the world tourism map the word ‘Ayurveda’ has of great importance. This is because Ayurveda is not only a curative branch but also renowned its name in preventive medicine. On close watching the current tourist industry it is revealed that so many International Hotels joined hands with reputed Ayurvedic Firms and are offering Ayurvedic Refreshment Packages with out any side effects, which includes Ayurvedic Massage, Yoga’s and Panchakarma - means purification of body and mind through five means. Since Bahrain is one of the important tourist centers in the Middle East, the scope of Ayurveda is beyond expectations. In a view to render better services to the people, especially Bahrainis and considering the Global trends, we are planning to expand our Centre by including additional services like practice of General Medicine, Home care services and nursing allied services. Today the Treatment Centre has been equipped with all necessary treatment equipments and medicines to compete the needs of all categories of patients of both sexes.
