AN UNUSUAL SIGN OF BREAST CANCER

Changes in your breasts can occur suddenly or gradually. The key for you to remember is that you shouldn’t wait things out and book an appointment with a healthcare provider.

While certain breast changes may be due to another cause, early diagnosis and treatment is the best way to maximize your chances of a good outcome if breast cancer is present.

One of these signs is Dimpled Skin.

As breast cancer progresses, breast tissue decreases, which may cause changes to the texture of the breast. This occurs nearer to the skin’s surface, creating a dimpled, orange-peel texture, often with scaling.

It looks somewhat similar to an allergic skin reaction, in which the inflammation can cause the pores to look larger and more open. The skin may also be thicker and warm to the touch.

RENAL ULTRASOUND

A renal ultrasound (or kidney ultrasound) is a safe, non-invasive imaging test using sound waves to create real-time pictures of your kidneys, bladder, and sometimes prostate, helping doctors diagnose issues like kidney stones, infections, tumors, blockages, or structural problems.

What it shows:
– Kidney Health: Size, shape, location, cysts, tumors, injury, or congenital issues.

– Urinary Tract: Blockages (like stones or narrowed ureters), infections, and bladder emptying.

– Blood Flow: Can use Doppler to check blood flow in renal arteries/veins (a renal artery ultrasound).

Prostate (in men): Can assess size and shape.

Different tests for different breasts!
About 40% of women have dense breast tissue.

Having dense breasts is normal – it means your breasts contain more tissue than fat. And for these women – mammograms alone may not be enough to find breast cancer.

Invenia ABUS: The first ultrasound technology FDA-approved for breast cancer screening in women with dense breast tissue.

Invenia ABUS screening along with your screening mammogram will help provide a more complete evaluation of your dense breast tissue.

Ultimate Imaging provide our patients with a breast density score upon completion of their mammography screening results. Typically for women with a score of C (Heterogeneously dense) or D (Extremely dense), it will be recommended to include an ABUS screening in addition to your mammogram.

WEIGHT GAIN AFTER PREGNANCY

Weight gain after pregnancy is common, driven by hormonal shifts (progesterone, cortisol), sleep deprivation, stress and lifestyle factors like poor diet or inactivity.

This can lead to fluid retention, increased appetite and fat storage, especially in the midsection, with many women retaining weight beyond the first year.

You are not alone – About 1/2 of mothers retain over 10 pounds, and a 1/4 retain over 20 pounds at six months postpartum.

So what can you do?

– Eat nutrient-dense foods at regular intervals; focus on protein; limit added sugars, processed foods and alcohol.

– Aim to include core strengthening exercises for abdominal separation (diastasis recti).

– Prioritize sleep, even if it means asking for help to get rest.

EXERCISE WHILE PREGNANT

Pregnancy is an incredible journey, but it can also bring its fair share of physical and emotional challenges.

Regular exercise during pregnancy has been shown to improve mood, boost energy, promote healthy weight gain, and even shorten labor duration.

However,
– Consult your doctor before starting any exercise program, especially if you have any pregnancy complications.

– Listen to your body: Avoid overexertion, and stop exercising if you feel pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath.

– Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout.
