I still smile every time I think about this moment.

When I first started working as a young woman, one of my non-negotiables was renewing my ESSENCE Magazine subscription. It wasn’t just a magazine — it was my mentor in print.

ESSENCE guided me through the early years of becoming a woman of purpose… teaching me about grooming, relationships, self-care, Black excellence, and what it meant to walk with dignity and confidence.

I still remember the excitement when ESSENCE brought their fashion shows to The Bahamas. I was there — watching, learning, dreaming, and quietly expanding the boundaries of what I believed was possible.

Fast forward to this year… and an email lands in my inbox from an ESSENCE.com writer, asking to interview me for an article on S*x & Menopause.

Honestly? My first reaction was:
“This must be a scam.”

But the Holy Spirit nudged me to pause, look deeper, and check their website. And there she was — a real Essence.com writer.

I have to stop right now and testify that indeed God is good and faithful.

I said yes to the interview and was honored to be one of only three experts included. And she mentioned that I’m from The Bahamas — a small but meaningful contribution to placing our nation’s voice on the global stage.

Never in my early years of flipping through those magazines did I imagine that ESSENCE would one day come looking for me, a Bahamian woman committed to serving women through their menopause journey.

But that’s the thing about purpose — when you stay in your lane, it finds you.
