The formal handing and taking over of the Dzongkhag Hospital and Primary Health Centers between the National Medical Services, Ministry of Health and the Dzongkhag Administration, Punakha was successfully conducted on 22nd January 2026.

The ceremony began with the offering of butter lamps and prayers led by the Dratsang Yerzhu Umzey. The significant event was graced by Hon’ble Dasho Dzongdag, Dasho Dzongrab Gom, Dzongkhag Tshogdu Thrizin, Sector Heads, Chief Medical Officer, and representatives from the Dzongkhag Hospital and Primary Health Centers.

Punakha Hospital organised first ever Marathon themed “ Run for Health” on 17th of November, 2025 with the support from NCD program, Department of Public Health, Hi Tech company Pvt. Ltd. and Gadap Lhakpa construction.
The event was held to celebrate the 70th birth anniversary of the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
It was also highlighted during the event to recognise world Diabetes day (14 of November) and to raise awareness on Non Communicable Diseases (NCD).
The Punakha Hospital family extends their gratitude to those individuals who made this event possible and also to the traffic division of Punakha for their active support during the event.
