On this sacred 70th birth anniversary, we CMW family under CPA organization pay our tribute to a monarch whose legacy is not carved in stone, but in the hearts of his people and the soul of our country—His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, our King of Wisdom and Compassion.
His Majesty ascended the Golden Throne at a tender age, yet his wisdom was beyond his years. At a time when the world measured progress solely in economic terms, our King, with profound foresight, gifted us a revolutionary philosophy: Gross National Happiness.
He wisely declared that the purpose of governance is not just to enrich the economy, but to nurture the happiness and well-being of the people. This was not a mere slogan; it was a radical blueprint for survival and sustainability. It was the wisdom to see that true development lies in the balance between material growth and spiritual well-being, between preserving our ancient culture and embracing mindful modernity.
His wisdom was also strategic and profound. He safeguarded our sovereignty not with might, but with astute statesmanship and the unwavering loyalty of his people. He decentralized power, empowering the people to shape their own destinies through local governance. And with a wisdom that secured our future for all time, he gifted our nation its greatest charter of freedom and stability—the Constitution of Bhutan, gracefully guiding our transition to a vibrant democratic constitutional monarchy.
But a king’s wisdom, however great, is incomplete without a heart of compassion. And here, His Majesty’s legacy shines its brightest. His compassion was not a distant sentiment; it was a living, breathing force.
He walked the length and breadth of our rugged nation, not in a royal motorcade, but on foot. He crossed treacherous mountain passes, slept in the humblest of homes, and listened to the smallest of concerns. He did not rule from a throne of gold, but from the courtyards of farmhouses and the heart of village gatherings. In his presence, every citizen—from the elder in Lhuentse to the farmer in Sarpang—felt seen, heard, and valued.
He was the People’s King. His compassion was his governance. He understood that to lead a people, you must first love them. He shared in our joys and shouldered our sorrows, his smile a source of national comfort, his resolve our collective strength.
Today, as we look around, we see the fruits of his wisdom and compassion everywhere. In the pristine forests that cover our land, a testament to his environmental stewardship. In the peace and stability we enjoy as a nation. In the global recognition of GNH as a model for the world. And most importantly, in the proud, confident spirit of the Bhutanese people.
His greatest gift to us was ensuring that this legacy of selfless service would continue. He raised a successor, our beloved Fifth Druk Gyalpo, in his own image—a monarch of unparalleled dedication who walks the same path of service, further illuminating the way with his own grace and vision.
Your Majesty, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, on this milestone day, we offer you our deepest, most heartfelt gratitude. We may strive for words grand enough to honor you, but we find that the truest tribute lies not in our speech, but in our lives.
It lies in our commitment to be loyal and productive citizens.
It lies in our pledge to protect the sovereignty and environment you preserved for us.
It lies in our dedication to living the values of GNH.
You are our nation’s architect and our people’s father. You are, and will forever be, The King of Wisdom and Compassion.
We wish you, our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo, good health and long life.
Long Live His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo!
Long Live the Pelden Drukpa!
Thank you, and Kadrin Chhey La. 👏🇧🇹
