The Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program and the Elderly Care Program under the Department of Public Health, initiated the development of an assessment toolkit aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusiveness within health facilities. This toolkit aims to ensure that healthcare infrastructure aligns with the principles of universal design, thereby promoting equitable access to services for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
A key milestone in this development process was the validation workshop held in Tsirang from 27–28 October 2025, which brought together experts from various fields to review, refine, and finalize the toolkit. A pilot test was also conducted at Tsirang Hospital to assess the effectiveness of the toolkit in identifying infrastructure gaps and areas requiring improvement.
This collaborative effort marks an important milestone in strengthening Bhutan’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing health services.
