If your child isn’t talking yet; it doesn’t mean they’re not learning to communicate.

Language develops in layers.

Before children can talk, they need to:
- Attend to people and activities
- Engage and take turns
- Play and explore meaning through actions
- Understand what words mean
- Use words to label, request, and comment
- And then refine speech sounds

Each level builds the foundation for the next; if one layer is shaky, speech may take longer to develop.

Milestone Monday
Ever wondered what your 2-year-old’s communication should look like?
By around age two, most toddlers:
- Say at least 50 words (even if not all are clear)
- Combine 2 words together like “more juice” or “mummy go”
- Follow simple 2-step directions (“Get your shoes and put them on”)
- Use gestures or pointing to show what they want
- Enjoy songs, play, and short interactions

**Screenshot this video to keep as a quick reference for your child’s speech milestones!

If your little one isn’t combining words yet or gets frustrated when trying to communicate, don’t panic, but don’t wait either. Early support makes a big difference. 💛

It's understandable to want to see almost immediate results and easy to go with a compliance based approach - however it's important to consider the rights of little beings as well as helping them become independent and not be reliant on an adult.

Compliance-based therapy focuses on getting children to obey commands or follow instructions, often prioritizing compliance over autonomy, emotional regulation, and authentic communication. While the intent may be to teach skills or encourage certain behaviors, this approach can have long-term consequences that overshadow short-term gains.

Let’s shift the narrative from “following directions” to empowering children to navigate their world with confidence, self-awareness, and joy.

Every child’s language journey is unique! As parents, you might feel like you’re doing everything right – talking, labeling, playing – but still not seeing the progress you hoped for. The truth is, language stimulation isn’t one-size-fits-all!

What works for one child might not work for another, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s about finding the right approach for your child.

Let’s work together to discover what sparks their language growth. Need some guidance? Reach out, I’m here to help!

Let's foster positive communication. Instead of asking questions, try offering observations or comments to encourage interactions. Remember, children absorb language like sponges, especially from birth to three years. Provide a rich environment of words for them to understand and use. 🗨️💙

Wondering if it's autism or just a speech delay? It's important to note that while there can be overlap in some characteristics, the key distinction lies in the broader social and behavioral aspects associated with autism. Additionally, speech delays can occur independently or alongside various developmental conditions including autism. Each case is unique and these mentioned characteristics below can vary widely. If you have concerns about a child's development, consulting with healthcare professionals for a thorough evaluation is recommended.

Autism is a neurological condition that affects individuals in different ways. One of the characteristics of autism is an atypical sensory profile, which means that individuals with autism may experience differences in how they process sensory information from the environment. This can include heightened sensitivity or reduced sensitivity to various sensory stimuli, such as touch, sound, taste, smell, and visual input.

Understanding and meeting the sensory needs of individuals with autism is an important aspect of supporting their well-being and quality of life.
