BVI Reinforces Regional Commitment with Support for FMD Prevention at the Botswana–Zimbabwe Border
Continuing its drive to support Botswana and the SADC region during the ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak, the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) has once again demonstrated its sense of regional responsibility through targeted, impactful action. Following a joint ministerial committee consultation involving local authorities and the Mophato group in Bobonong, Botswana , BVI extended dedicated support to Mophato, recognising their crucial frontline role in halting the cross-border spread of FMD.
In a moment symbolising this partnership, BVI Chief Executive Officer Andrew Madeswi handed over a donation for the Mophato group to the Minister of Presidential Affairs Moeti Mohwasa, further underlining the institute’s commitment to empowering local communities and reinforcing practical support on the ground.
This initiative not only highlights BVI’s provision of fit-for-purpose vaccines and technical expertise, but also reflects its ongoing support to Botswana and multiple SADC countries during this critical period, uniting scientific expertise with local engagement.
The occasion, officiated by Honourable Moeti Mohwasa, Minister of Presidential Affairs, reaffirmed the importance of strong partnership and coordinated action among institutions, community leaders, and local structures.
Together, these collaborative efforts ensure the protection of livestock, strengthen regional resilience, and advance shared prosperity for Botswana and the broader SADC community.
