While in Namibia, the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI), represented by CEO and Head of Delegation Mr. Andrew Madeswi and Board Member Dr. Gaseitsiwe Michael Sento, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation, accompanied by representatives from the High Commission of Botswana to Namibia, had the privilege of meeting with Ms. Angela Pretorius, Director of International Trade, and her team.

BVI appreciates its important role in contributing to strengthening bilateral relations for Botswana, particularly through contribution to management and control of transboundary animal diseases. Through technical support and the supply of fit-for-purpose vaccines, BVI remains committed to advancing regional animal health.

On 12 February 2026, the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI), represented by CEO and Head of Delegation Mr. Andrew Madeswi and Board Member Dr. Gaseitsiwe Michael Sento, had the honour of meeting Dr. Alexandra Marko, Chairperson of the Veterinary Association of Namibia, during a stakeholder engagement visit to Namibia. This meeting followed a courtesy visit that BVI paid to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform as well as the Department of Veterinary Services.

BVI values its longstanding partnership with the Ministry and remains committed to supporting animal health initiatives in Namibia through continued collaboration with both the Ministry and the private sector.

We are honored to share highlights from yesterday (11 February 2026) stakeholder engagement by the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) Delegation, led by CEO Mr. Andrew Madeswi, accompanied by Board Member Dr. Gaseitsiwe Michael Sento.

This important engagement included high-level discussions with Namibiaโ€™s Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, led by the Deputy Executive Director Mr Kingsley Kwenani and the Department of Veterinary Services. The engagement reaffirmed the long-standing collaboration between BVI and our Namibian partners, with a focus on tackling pressing challenges such as the ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak affecting the SADC region.

Our technical meetings discussed continued impactful technical cooperation. Dr. Kenneth Shoombe, Namibiaโ€™s Chief Veterinary Officer, led the Namibian delegation in productive discussions, while Dr. Mmolotsi Dikolobe represented BVIโ€™s technical expertise. Together, the teams explored strategic interventions such as vaccine supply,enhanced disease surveillance, and harmonized emergency response frameworks to mitigate FMD and other transboundary animal diseases.

At BVI, our commitment goes beyond providing vaccines, we strive to support capacity building and foster sustainable, science-driven solutions for animal health. We believe renewed and reinforced regional partnerships are essential to safeguarding livestock, livelihoods, trade and food security across Southern Africa and beyond.

The Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) delegation led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Andrew Madeswi and accompanied by Board Member Dr. Gaseitsiwe Michael Sento, commenced their mission to the Republic of Namibia with a courtesy visit to the High Commissioner of Botswana to Namibia, H.E. Philip Khwae yesterday on 10 February 2026. His Excellency welcomed the delegation and commended BVI for their proactive approach and commitment to reinforcing vital regional partnerships.

The BVI team is in Namibia for a series of significant stakeholder engagements aimed at deepening the established collaboration between the institute and Namibia. This visit is particularly timely, given the current challenges faced by the SADC region in managing the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak. Ongoing cooperation is essential to enhance coordinated disease control measures and sustainable animal health management practices.

By facilitating technical exchanges and strengthening institutional links, BVI and its Namibian counterparts are working together to address shared regional concerns and advance animal health security. BVI remains dedicated to fostering impactful collaborations and contributing to effective disease management for the benefit of the wider region.
