The World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Commemoration held in Palapye brought together key leaders across sectors to reaffirm Botswana’s commitment to combating AMR through a One Health approach. Guided by the 2025 theme, “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,”
In attendance were Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hon. Dr Edwin Dikoloti, Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Steven Modise and Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Ignitious Moswaane. Collectively they highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action across animal health, human health, and the environment. They called for reduced misuse of antibiotics in livestock, responsible antibiotic use in humans, strengthened infection prevention, accurate diagnosis, and improved community awareness. Their shared message highlighted that preventing AMR requires prioritizing vaccination, sanitation, biosecurity, proper professional guidance, and sustainable health practices at all levels.
BVI CEO, Mr. Andrew Madeswi, emphasised that responsible livestock management, anchored in vaccination, remains key to sustainable production and long-term AMR mitigation.
