The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) was established in 1978 and is recognized in the National Sport and Recreation Policy by the Government as one of the key sports organisations in the country. The BNOC started participating In the Olympic Games in 1980 at the Moscow Olympics although the country had been sending athletes to the Commonwealth Games since early 1970’s.

🇧🇼 CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE | TEAM BOTSWANA

A moment of pride for Botswana 💥

🇧🇼 Oratile Nowe delivered a standout performance at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix 2026, storming to victory in the Women’s 800m with an impressive 1:58.42.

This achievement is even more significant as Nowe is a beneficiary of the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship Programme — an initiative designed to support elite athletes with funding, coaching, training camps, medical support, and international competition exposure as they prepare for the Olympic Games.

Through this programme, the Botswana National Olympic Committee continues to empower athletes to reach world-class standards, and Nowe’s performance is a clear reflection of that investment in talent and excellence.

Her victory is not just a personal milestone, but a testament to the impact of structured athlete support and development on the global stage

📍 LEGENDS AT PLAY / BAGAKA BA METSHAMEKO

The TAFISA CLC Mokgenene Project was successfully launched, marking a significant step in promoting active living, community engagement, and the preservation of traditional games.

The event was officiated by the Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Honourable Moneedi Bagaisamang, and featured remarks from the CEO of the Botswana National Olympic Committee Mrs Dorothy Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe highlighting the importance of sport as a tool for inclusion, wellness, and community development.

Led by the Botswana National Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Botswana National Sport Commission, the initiative brought together community members, leaders, and stakeholders in celebration of Sport for All.

The Botswana Beach Volleyball National Team continues to intensify its preparations ahead of the upcoming African Championship qualifiers and the 3rd Leg of the CAVB Zone VI Beach Volleyball tournament.

As part of their build-up, the team recently concluded a successful week-long high-performance training camp in Angola during the Nordic Beach Volleyball Week. The camp, hosted by the Angolan Volleyball Federation in partnership with the Norway Embassy, provided valuable international exposure and an opportunity for the athletes to train under world-class conditions alongside international counterparts. This was made possible by Botswana National Olympic Committee.

Following their return, the team has set up camp in Radisele, where preparations are progressing well. The training program has been boosted by access to quality facilities, contributing positively to the athletes’ readiness and overall performance.

The team extends its sincere gratitude to the Botswana National Sports Commission for providing the training facilities in Radisele, which have played a key role in supporting the team’s preparations. Appreciation is also extended to the leadership of Radisele School for granting access to their grounds and for allowing students to witness and engage with the national team during training sessions—an initiative that continues to inspire young and upcoming athletes.

The Botswana Beach Volleyball Team remains focused, motivated, and committed to representing the nation with pride as they approach these important international competitions.

Happy Earth Day 🌍

On this Earth Day, we are reminded that protecting our planet is not a one-day effort, but a daily commitment we all share.

Sport has the power to move nations — but it also has the power to move minds and inspire change. From grassroots to elite competition, sport brings people together in shared spaces that depend on clean air, safe environments, and sustainable resources.

As athletes train, compete, and represent our nation, they also become ambassadors for environmental stewardship. Whether it is reducing plastic use at events, promoting recycling in stadiums, conserving water, or encouraging greener travel, sport can lead the way in protecting our planet.

Let us continue to use sport not only to inspire performance and unity, but also to champion sustainability and safeguard the environment for future generations.
