Continuing your child’s assessment journey can still feel uncertain, especially as you move closer to the actual assessment day.
- What will happen during the session?
- How should you prepare?
- What comes after the assessment?
This week, we are walking this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, prepared and supported every step of the way.
Let’s continue.
Step 4: Assessment Session
This is where your child takes part in a range of tasks designed to assess areas such as attention, problem solving, reading, writing and memory. These activities help us better understand your child’s learning and development.
Step 4: What to Bring
Preparation is important for a smooth assessment day. Please bring your referral letter, medical aid details, snacks and lunch, as well as any glasses, hearing aids or medication your child may need. Assessments can take several hours and in some cases, the full day.
Step 5: Parent Interview
Your input as a parent is essential. During this session, we gather information about your child’s developmental, medical and academic history, as well as your observations, to build a complete picture.
Step 6: Written Report
Following the assessment, a detailed report is compiled. This includes findings, a possible diagnosis, and recommendations for both school and home, as well as any necessary referrals.
Each of these steps helps us develop a clear and meaningful understanding of your child, so that the support provided is appropriate and effective.
And the journey does not end here.If you’ve been following along, you’re already taking an important step toward supporting your child.
