Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital Formerly known as Lobatse Mental Hospital, Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital has been named after Dr Giuseppe Sbrana who was from Italy.

He was the first Psychiatric Specialist to work in Botswana from 1969. The naming of the hospital is in recognition and appreciation of the contribution and legacy of the late Dr Sbrana to development of mental health in Botswana. The new hospital is one of the most modern psychiatric hospitals in Africa. It is also the only national referral hospital for psychiatric illnesses in Botswana. It has a bed capacity of 300. It comprises of 6 complexes: the Day hospital, Childrenโ€™s psychiatric ward, Forensic ward (for mentally unstable offenders), Rehabilitation ward, Observation ward and Psycho-geriatric ward (elderly citizens).

Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital (SPH) staff members gathered together as a united front on the 10th September 2025, to commemorate the international su***de prevention day. Members of staff honoured this day by wearing the Su***de Prevention colours; Purple & Teal. This year`s theme was, โ€œCHANGING THE NARRATIVE ON SU***DEโ€.
