We are hearing some of the reaction from our Know Your Rights: Empowering Older Persons in Belize held at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza on October 29th, 2025, and we are loving it. The consensus? It was a truly informative session.

We are grateful to all the panelist who shared their expertise and insights:

Today, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, along with the National Council on Ageing, Living Independently in Full Existence - LIFE (LIFE), HelpAge Belize, UNICEF Belize, and 駐貝里斯技術團 Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), hosted a Healthy Ageing and Nutrition Symposium to help strengthen and improve healthy ageing in our society.

The symposium focused on:
Nutrition: Promoting balanced diets and food security for older adults
Health Promotion: Encouraging active lifestyles and preventive care
Support Systems: Strengthening community networks, caregiving resources, and policy frameworks.

We also extend a special thank you to the local artisans whose generous contributions added cultural richness to the event and portrays the spirit of community.

Hon. Thea Garcia-Ramirez shares this message to commemorate October 1st, celebrating the 35th International Day of Older Persons.

This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights,” resonates deeply here at home.

Our senior citizens are the bedrock of our communities. Their experience built our nation, and their wisdom continues to guide us. They are not passive observers—they are active change makers, shaping our society’s resilience and development every day.

In this spirit, we proudly reaffirm our government’s commitment to protecting the well-being of older persons—from expanding NHI and BOOST programs to advancing laws and policies that uphold their rights and dignity.

As the world grows older, let us grow wiser.

To our younger generations: aging is not someone else’s story—it’s your future.
Stand with our elders. Learn from them. Advocate beside them.

Let’s build a society where growing older is not a burden, but a badge of honor.
