You know you’re an IBCLC when!
Both my husband and our baby boy were sleeping soundly while I lay awake, doing what I do best: overthinking. 😅
And of course, he’s snoring. So I got curious. I tried the sleeping tongue posture hold. 😜
Note the breaks in snoring, this is when I’m pushing up on his chin to hold his tongue to the roof of his mouth.
Check out my reel on ‘sleeping tongue posture hold’ and learn why oral function matters from the beginning so we can avoid these sleepless nights!
I mean, who am I kidding, I’ll still be awake overthinking sometimes, but you can’t have it all. 😜

I’m so excited to share that I’m opening up my schedule for lactation consults after being on maternity leave.
This season has given me an even deeper appreciation for how personal and complex feeding journeys can be. Whether you’re preparing to breastfeed, navigating challenges postpartum, or simply wanting support and reassurance, I’m here to help.
I really do understand how complicated and alone it can feel postpartum. How blindsided you can feel by the lack of support and knowledge.
As an IBCLC, I offer evidence-based, individualized support with the goal of helping you feel informed, confident, and supported every step of the way.
My schedule is now open and I’m accepting more bookings again.

There has been a lot of conflicting information online lately about sunflower lecithin vs. choline for clogged ducts and mastitis support.
So, let’s go to the evidence. ⬇️
Choline is an important nutrient in lactation and can absolutely play a role in overall maternal support. But the current ABM mastitis spectrum protocol still includes sunflower or soy lecithin as part of management alongside ice, ibuprofen, and physiological feeding.
When the evidence is nuanced, statements like “never use this” or “this is the only safe option” can create fear and confusion rather than support informed care.
As IBCLCs, our role is not to use fear-based messaging or oversimplified rules. Our role is to assess the full picture, provide accurate and unbiased information, explain risks and benefits, and support families in making informed decisions.
Context matters.
A supplement used short term for an acute issue is not the same as something taken daily long term. And if clogged ducts are happening repeatedly, the answer is usually not to just keep taking supplements. It’s time to step back and look at the full feeding picture, inflammation, breast drainage, pumping patterns, oversupply, latch, and transfer.
The goal is to understand why it is happening and help families move forward with a plan that makes sense for them.
It can be incredibly confusing when there’s conflicting information on social media, but spoiler alert 🚨: it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Ask questions. Ask for evidence. Tell your story. Express what you need. And then make a decision that feels right for you and your family.
If you are experiencing clogged ducts - DM me so we can create a plan that works specifically for you and your baby.

I have personally struggled HARD with postpartum and I’ve learned a few things. ⬇️
Postpartum self-care isn’t a luxury. It’s nervous system support - and that can matter for breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding relies on hormones like oxytocin for milk ejection/letdown. Stress doesn’t make milk vanish, but it can temporarily interfere with milk flow - which can show up as fussiness at the breast, popping on/off, or “why won’t letdown happen today?” (lllc.ca)
So when I encourage moms to take care of themselves, it’s not fluff. It’s physiology.
Your self-care doesn’t need to be a marathon. It can be 10 minutes. A shower. A walk. A nap. A handoff.
And if feeding feels hard right now: you don’t have to guess. In a consult, I look at the whole feeding picture - latch, positioning, milk transfer, supply, baby’s oral function, bottles/pumping, your goals, and your real life - and I’ll tailor a plan that supports you and helps you feel confident moving forward.
You are not meant to do postpartum on empty.
My DM’s are always open. 💞

I am always telling my clients to make sure they find something to do for themselves.
It doesn’t have to be a pedicure - it can be anything that feeds your momma soul.
It’s so important to not lose sight of ourselves while going through the postpartum period and thought out parenting.
My DM’s are always open if you need support.

Ever wonder: “Is my baby still eating/getting enough … or just nursing for comfort?”
This video shows both:
🥛 Nutritive sucking (milk transfer):
Deep, slower sucks + you’ll see/hear swallows = baby is actively drinking.
💛 Non-nutritive sucking (comfort):
Light, quick “flutter” sucks + swallows fade out = baby is soothing/settling.
Both are normal - but knowing the difference can help you:
✔ feel confident baby got the milk
✔ decide when to switch sides / use compressions
✔ support weaning by separating milk time from soothing time
If you need more guidance during this process - I’m here to help. 💞

Short answer: yes!
In fact, there are many benefits for you AND baby.
The key 🔑: make sure you choose a high-quality collagen. I use because I wholeheartedly trust the owner and the company (link in my bio!!).
During pregnancy your protein needs increase, so adding a collagen to your coffee, a smoothie, or oatmeal can help your daily intake. Especially when it can be challenging for some women due to food aversions or nausea.
Collagen supports skin elasticity, which may help reduce the appearance of stretch marks as the skin stretches to accommodate your growing baby (I am 38 and just had my third baby and NO stretch marks).
Collagen can help alleviate joint and ligament discomfort associated with weight gain and hormonal changes.
Collagen can also support fetal development of bones and connective tissues.
Not to mention we are losing around 1% of collagen per year after the age of 30 - so I’ll take al the collagen I can get!

Happy New Year friends!
So many exciting things to come in this new year.
Let this be a time we get to reflect on our hopes and dreams, the good and the not so good.
May we recognize where we need some work, and celebrate what we’ve accomplished.
And remember, you may experience mastitis/an effect on your milk supply in the aftermath of the holiday season - be sure to reach out if you have any questions! 🥂
All the love,
Sarah
