Midwives are essential to healthy families and a strong healthcare system. Midwifery care improves outcomes and reduces pressure on hospitals, yet many Alberta families still can’t access it due to chronic underfunding.

While recent initiatives acknowledge the value of midwifery, short-term, project-based funding does not create stable access or a sustainable workforce.

📮 Free, already-stamped postcards to your MLA (all districts available)
🚗 Free bumper stickers

This campaign calls for sustainable investment in midwifery so all Albertans, regardless of where they live, can access high-quality, culturally respectful pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. Strengthening midwifery is an investment in healthier families, stronger communities, and a more resilient healthcare system for the future.

The Bump Ahead prenatal course last weekend.

We learn ways to comfort and settle fussy babies, change diapers, dress and swaddle (with of course some friendly competition thrown in and highlight the importance of parent team work in newborn care). Learn about labour stages, what mom's and baby's bodies are doing at each stage. Julie (counsellor) discussed changes in relationships after baby is born and how to mediate relationship stress and communicate effectively with each other...and of course have fun doing it!

Next weekend prenatal course: February 21 & 22

We’re often taught to focus on colours, shapes, and letters first.
But before any of that, kids need language that works for them.

Functional language helps children get their needs met, express feelings, and connect with the people around them — in real life, every day.

Because communication isn’t about what a child can label — it’s about how they’re able to participate in the world.
And that’s where we always start.

Choosing a care provider isn’t just about who delivers your baby — it’s about the kind of care that surrounds your entire pregnancy and birth.

Canadian research shows that midwife-led care is associated with:
• fewer interventions
• lower C-section rates
• strong outcomes for babies
• and safe, supported births

Evidence matters.
So does feeling heard, respected, and supported.

We’re honoured to walk beside you.

Letters and numbers come later.
Before that, kids need functional communication — the ability to ask for help, connect with others, and get their needs met.

That’s the foundation Breanna focuses on in her work as our Speech-Language Pathologist: real-life communication that supports confident, connected kids and families.

Pelvic floor dysfunction isn’t a postpartum issue — it’s a lifelong health concern that often starts earlier than we think.

Because it’s so common, it’s been normalized into silence. People adapt, push through, and assume it’s just their body — when support and prevention could change long-term outcomes for individuals, families, and our healthcare system.

This is why pelvic health education matters.

At bb&b, Kunjal, our pelvic floor physiotherapist, supports our clients with respectful, evidence-informed care — in a space where everyone is welcome.

Care that goes above and beyond starts with conversations like this.
