Highland Primary Care Network

Highland Primary Care Network A network of physicians and other health providers working together to provide a more comprehensive primary care service.

The Highland Primary Care Network (HPCN) has been around since 2007 providing health care services in Airdrie, Carstairs, Crossfield, Didsbury and surrounding areas. HPCN encompasses fourteen clinics, over forty-one member physicians and serves over fifty thousand patients. Primary Care (PC) is the first point of contact within the health care system that is provided by family physicians and Primary Care Network’s (PCN) interprofessional team; nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and behavioural health consultants. The interprofessional team works closely with physicians resulting in better collaboration, timely referrals and comprehensive patient care.

Food is a central part of many holiday gatherings and traditions; it brings us happiness and comfort, and most importantly, it brings us together.
However, events centered around food may also bring feelings of guilt. Here are some strategies that may help you focus on joy and connection instead of unwanted emotions when gathering with your loved ones this holiday season.

🍴Slow down and take the time to enjoy your food.
🍴 Listen to your body and notice your hunger and fullness cues.
🍴 Instead of making rules about foods you can or cannot have, give yourself permission to enjoy smaller portions and give yourself time to savour each bite.

When required, a registered dietitian can help you learn about these strategies and implement them in a way that fits your lifestyle and health goals. Meeting with a PCN dietitian is free of charge with a referral from your primary care provider. To learn more or explore our free workshops visit: https://hpcn.ca/classes/

CALGARY ZONE PCNs:

On October 30, Primary Care Networks across Calgary came together for a Truth and Reconciliation event focused on learning, reflection and action.

Through shared stories and dialogue, staff explored their understanding of the systemic barriers and lived experiences that affect access to safe, equitable and culturally grounded primary care for Indigenous peoples.

💛 Together, we continue the work of reconciliation — relationality, responsibility and reciprocity.

🎃 When the tricks of Halloween fade, there's a treat on the other side: an extra hour of sleep.

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 2.

If time changes usually throw you off, try these tips to help you adjust:

💤 adopt a calming ritual before bed and limit screen time
💤 ease in by gradually shifting your sleep schedule
💤 if you need to take a nap, keep it short and sweet
💤 spend time outdoors to enjoy natural light
💤 keep a consistent exercise routine
💤 skip caffeine when it gets close to bedtime

If you typically have trouble falling asleep, talk to your primary care provider.
