March 25 marks , a day dedicated to raising awareness and recognizing individuals living with cerebral palsy (CP). More than 17 million people worldwide are affected, making CP one of the most common physical disabilities, particularly among children. CP is a permanent physical disability that affects mobility and muscle strength, highlighting the importance of awareness, understanding and ongoing support.
On our blog, Julie and Mike, parents of a Grandview Kid, Jaxon, share their son’s journey with right-sided spastic hemiplegia CP and epilepsy following a stroke at birth. With the support of Grandview Kids, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, therapeutic recreation and family engagement programs, Jaxon continues to build strength, independence and confidence. Julie and Mike reflect on the emotional and practical realities of supporting a child with CP and epilepsy, from advocacy and adapting their home to ensuring access to the right care and equipment, while celebrating his resilience and progress. They hope people understand that resilience is not about being strong all the time, but about showing up, making difficult decisions with love, and embracing a journey rooted in community, advocacy and hope, grounded in the belief that Jaxon deserves every chance to live a full and meaningful life.
