Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

My husband was bold enough to sit down with me a few weeks ago and talk about the loss of our daughter, Autumn.

I’ll be lighting a candle tonight for ALL the babies who have touched my life who are no longer here ❤️

Link in comments to watch the full video, my husband gets super candid.

The very first birth I ever attended in my entire life as a doula was a HypnoBirth.

It was so peaceful, and zen, and mom was so in the zone listening to the HypnoBirthing tracks and breathing and what looked like just relaxing in the birth tub, that none of us - not me, her husband, or her two midwives - even realized that she was pushing and her baby was coming.

I barely had time to grab my camera to capture the moment that she pulled her daughter up out of the water.
For that matter, the midwives barely had time to don their gloves and help catch their little girl.

I had literally just done my HypnoBirthing Support Practitioner certification the weekend prior to this birth, so I was well versed already in how HypnoBirthing can change the whole atmosphere of a birth space….but seeing it firsthand was something else.

I’m not suggesting that everyone should do HypnoBirthing because it’s NOT for everyone, but if you’re interested in learning some of the breathing techniques that go along with a HypnoBirth, check out today’s video because I’m taking you through them all.

We’re pretty lucky here in Canada that many of us have the option of birthing at home as well as at the hospital. Some of us also have the option of birthing at a birth centre, but only if you live near one 🙄 In Ontario there are only 3 birth centres, plus the Alongside Midwifery Unit at Markham-Stouffville…Ontario is HUGE (I mean, you could literally fit like 10 Jamaicas into 1 Ontario) so for the majority of Ontarians a birth centre is not an option.

Which is kinda why I’m focusing on the difference between home and hospital birth today.

Especially with the pandemic, many more people have been considering home birth to get around some of the restrictions happening in hospitals (like the 1 support person rule that many hospitals still have, which excludes us doulas unless we’re considered part of the health care team….which in most cases, we’re not).

Check it out if you’ve been considering a home birth, and drop any questions in the comments 👇🏻

This is probably the best Uber driver ever.

Just saying.

And my new line for 2020: “we’re Gucci.” 😂

When I was in labour with my last baby, I literally roared him out.

In case you missed that story: I had a hospital transfer from a planned home birth, had my TENS and birth ball taken away and had to stay completely still during transitions, hanging on to my husband for dear life and with my midwife kneeling beside me trying to keep the monitor on my belly.

I thought I was dying, and the ONLY thing I had in that moment was my voice.

I knew through my training that low guttural sounds were actually a way to hack the parasympathetic nervous system….so I went for it.

I roared with every contraction for the entire 30 minutes it took to get the epidural placed (thanks crooked spine 😂)

Yes, the nurses outside the door were apparently giving each other looks, and my mother and doula could hear me from down the hall, BUT…it f*cking worked.

That’s why in this week’s video I’m sharing this hack - why it works, how to trigger it, and why you should stop giving a f*ck about making someone else uncomfortable 😉
