The Bud Rub Story
Bud Rub was an idea that started somewhere around 1999 or 2000. Of course back then it was called BC Bud Rub. I was trying to make a lip balm that would work on cold sores. It did that, but it was easier to package it in small ointment jars at that time and, years later, some customers in a store in Ladysmith began using it for arthritis and getting great results. From then on, Bud Rub was sold as a remedy for aches and pains, and especially arthritis.
Around the same time I began experimenting with h**p essential oil as an active ingredient instead of the THC I was using up until that time. I found it was equally, if not more, effective in relieving pain and inflammation. I wanted people to embrace cannabis as a topical along side other natural health products. A place I thought it belonged. Using essential oil allowed me to sell a product that was salable in most retail settings. I felt it was important to normalize the presence of cannabis in a retail natural health product setting. I still think this needs plenty of work.
Currently we do not use H**p Essential Oil in our products. Health Canada placed heavier restrictions on h**p derived products after legalization of high THC cannabis. We always knew that Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) was the active ingredient in the h**p essential oil and now use BCP derived from organically grown clove.
