HAPPY WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS/ACCEPTANCE DAY! I told Eric he could pick a special treat to mark the day. So after his Sobey's shift, he perused their bakery section and ended up bringing home a piece of chocolate fudge cake. I've also made one of his favourite suppers for tonight, tortellini and shrimp. :D

Eric and I had a terrific time tonight at the Lacombe Sobeys staff Christmas party. Fantastic food, and great company! Eric has been stocking shelves at Sobeys for over 15 months now, and the staff are friendly, relaxed and comfortable with him. Owners Lorianne and Doug are a treasure!

This past Sunday Eric did his usual awesome job of assembling our Christmas tree all by himself. He's been hanging about 20 or 25 ornaments on it each afternoon this week. I asked him what his favourite tree ornament is. He showed me this gold star. Despite the fact that he prefers MANY things to stay the same throughout the years (not uncommon for an autistic person), the choice of his favourite ornament is different each year. 😊 🎄

Recently we attended a lovely event put on by our service provider, Lacombe Action Group. They do this Recognition and Awards Celebration yearly. There's a delicious buffet lunch, and then they recognize both clients and staff. This year Eric was recognized for being with Action Group for 10 years! So I took the opportunity to get some photos. Dani presented Eric with his certificate and gift card. At the photo booth I got a fun picture of Eric, and one of him and his truly awesome aides, Aleshia and Michelle. ❤️

On Saturdays (which we call 'Fun Day'), Eric and his aide Michelle participate in activities and events throughout Central Alberta. Sometimes the outings I find for them are a hit, occasionally not. It's difficult to know how Eric will perceive an event when he gets there. This was a smaller Comic Con. I showed him photos ahead of time on their website, and he said yes, he would like to go. They drove an hour and 15 minutes each way. Eric was in and out in 10 minutes. Oh well, better luck next time. 😅 🧙‍♂️👽🦸‍♂️

Eric does work experience at the Lacombe Sobeys two afternoons a week. I recently went in there to shop, and caught him and his aide Aleshia by surprise. He loves working there. And doesn't he look awesome in his Sobey's t-shirt? 😁

Today Eric and I enjoyed the Westerner Days fair in Red Deer. He doesn't do any rides or booth games, but likes the atmosphere of the fairgrounds. We also watched several performances. Eric's favourite was the Extreme Dogs stunt show. That's interesting, as he usually doesn't like to be around animals due to his sensory issues with tactile defensiveness. Animals are often unpredictable and may touch him, which hurts. But in this case we were in the stands, and the dogs were in the encircled performance area, so he felt safe, and really enjoyed the show. :D

Yesterday Eric's Saturday aide Michelle took him to the Europa Super Circus which was in Red Deer for the day. He just loved it! She said he laughed and laughed at the clown, clapped for all the acts on his own, and loved the motorcycle daredevil act. He stayed for the whole show. 😁

Eric's Saturday aide, Michelle, brought him back this awesome t-shirt all the way from Las Vegas! How nice is that? As his absolute favourite treat is Reece's peanut butter cups with Reece's pieces in them, he happily wore his new shirt. 😁

This past Saturday we found places in our yard for two unique, locally made birdhouses that I bought for my husband for Christmas. The one Eric's holding is his favourite one. Doing this spring activity made us all feel happy.
