🔦 Foot Condition Spotlight: Raynaud’s Phenomenon (in the Feet)

What is it?
Raynaud’s Phenomenon is a condition where small blood vessels in your extremities — including toes — overreact to cold or stress. The result? Your toes may turn white, blue, or purple, and feel numb or painful.

Common Triggers:
🧊 Cold temperatures
😰 Emotional stress
💨 Sudden changes in weather

What You Might Notice:

Cold, discoloured toes

Tingling or numbness

Episodes that come and go

What Can Help:
Warm socks, avoiding sudden temperature shifts, and in some cases, medications. If your toes frequently look discoloured or feel cold even when others feel warm, it’s worth investigating.

🔦 Foot Condition Spotlight: Haglund’s Deformity

What is it?
Haglund’s Deformity is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel, often irritated by shoes that are stiff or tight. It’s sometimes called a “pump bump” due to its common appearance in people who wear high heels or rigid shoes.

What You Might Notice:
👠 A visible bump at the back of the heel
🔥 Redness or swelling around the area
🩴 Pain when wearing certain footwear

What Can Help:
Switching to shoes with soft backs, custom orthotics, heel lifts, or in more severe cases, surgery.

✅ Early treatment helps reduce inflammation and prevent the bump from worsening

What it is:
Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in joints — most commonly affecting the big toe.

Causes:
🍷 Diet high in purines (meat, seafood, alcohol)
🧬 Family history
💊 Certain medications or medical conditions

Symptoms:

Sudden, severe joint pain (often overnight)

Red, hot, and swollen joint (especially the big toe)

Tenderness so extreme that even light pressure hurts
