International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Today I was wrapped in courage.

I took the opportunity to review intimate partner violence and gender based violence with my naturopathic interns because it’s not always bruises. We reviewed other forms of abuse and how that might present in their patients.

We also talked about what supports are available through the women and children’s shelters (hint: it’s not just emergency housing!) and how the shelters can also help connect women to other community resources.

We reviewed how violence and abuse can show up in sport and took a look at Sport Canada’s updated Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport and the Canadian Safe Sport Program. I supervise a sports medicine shift and violence can absolutely happen there too.

Most athletes don’t hit plateaus because they’re unmotivated.

They hit plateaus because their physiology is overworked and under-recovered.

➤ If your energy feels off…
➤ If your training feels harder than it should…
➤ If old injuries are whispering (or shouting)…

The answer is almost never “push harder.”
Your body adapts when recovery is supported - not when it’s ignored.

When you fix the internal system (sleep depth, protein intake, micronutrients, inflammation load, hormones, gut health, stress physiology, load management), performance stops fighting you and starts working with you again.

If you want to feel strong, consistent, and capable in your training again - without burning out your system in the process - let’s talk.

Want to recover stronger than you train?

Soup season is here — and honestly, this is my version of self-care right now.
A little chopping, a little simmering, and a lot of warmth for the week ahead.

Fuel That Lasts: The Real Edge in Endurance Performance
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — performance isn’t just about training harder. It’s about what you’re made of — literally. Nutrition is the foundation of endurance.
When you fuel well, everything changes.
You train stronger. Recover faster. And show up with energy that actually lasts.
Your body is an engine built for distance — but it only runs as well as the fuel you give it. Carbs, protein, and healthy fats aren’t enemies or trends; they’re tools. The right mix helps you go longer, feel better, and bounce back faster.
And here’s the part most people overlook: recovery is where the magic happens. That’s when your muscles rebuild, your hormones rebalance, and your next PR starts to take shape.
I’ve watched athletes transform just by dialing in their nutrition — not through restriction or extremes, but through consistency and smarter choices. Whole foods. Real fuel. Sustainable habits.
If you’re serious about your sport — and about feeling good in the process — start with your plate. It’s the most underrated training tool you have.

I’ve been where you are — chasing finish lines, fighting fatigue, and trying to balance it all.
Now I help endurance athletes rebuild their energy, recovery, and resilience so they can perform at their best — in sport, work, and life.
Because performance isn’t built on doing more.
It’s built on recovering smarter, fueling better, and trusting your body again.
If that sounds like the kind of edge you’re after, you’re in the right place!
