Effective today, SMH is updating its masking policy and will return to masking in patient care interactions only for staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors. This includes patient rooms and treatment spaces as well as patient waiting rooms/areas. Masks will continue to be available at hospital entrances and throughout the hospital.

Masks are not required in main hallways, elevators, the Cafeteria and retail space (Auxiliary Gift Shop).

At Stevenson Memorial Hospital, we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Being a scent-free facility means we ask staff, patients, and visitors to avoid wearing scented products such as perfume, cologne, scented lotions, and sprays while in the hospital.

Strong scents can trigger headaches, nausea, breathing difficulties, and allergic reactions for some individuals, including patients, visitors, and staff. By keeping our spaces scent-free, we help ensure a more comfortable and inclusive environment for all.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Deepak Sharma as our new President and Chief Executive Officer effective March 16, 2026.

Deepak is currently the Vice President, Strategy & Organizational Performance at William Osler Health System, where he has successfully led the development, launch and implementation of their strategic plan, aligning organizational priorities with community health needs and future system transformation.

Prior to joining Osler, Deepak held progressive leadership positions at North York General Hospital, including Interim Vice President, Strategy, Integration and Health Information. He brings over 20 years of progressive experience in decision support and business intelligence, including leadership roles in large community and academic health facilities.

SMH welcomes Deepak’s focus on operational excellence and commitment to our mission of providing high-quality healthcare for the communities we serve as the hospital enters an important phase of growth and redevelopment.
