It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Marilyn Joyce Carter, 79, of Fort Lawrence, NS. Marilyn passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the High Crest Nursing Home in Springhill.

Born in Sackville, NB, she was a daughter of the late Laurie and Annie (McPhee) Thompson.

Besides her jobs outside the home, Marilyn continuously worked beside her husband George on the Double "C" farm doing anything that was required. She also worked as the bookkeeper for George's Trucking business, George F. Carter Trucking and could be seen at any point in time going with equipment.

Marilyn was employed by the province of Nova Scotia for a number of years working at the Nova Scotia Tourist Bureau. For a few years she sold real estate for Century 21, and also served as a Cumberland County Councilor.

Marilyn was community minded and was an integral part of many organizations in various capacities, this began with the Fort Lawrence Women's Institute and included such organizations as the RCL # 10, the Amherst RCAF Cumberland Wing #105, the Amherst Lioness Club, the Chignecto Wagoneers, the Tourism Industry of Nova Scotia, the Federation of Agriculture, the Cumberland Trucker Association, and many more.

Marilyn's creativity included knitting, sewing, quilting, painting, and playing the guitar.

She had a strong determination which on one occasion left her on the roof of the house with no way down waiting for George to come home! Marilyn's strong will meant she never backed down from what she believed in, as many can attest to, and she was always up for a political debate.

Marilyn had an affection for animals, especially her horses, Bud and Princess, dog Minnow and a multitude of cats throughout the years. This affection often saw her turn the kitchen into a make shift nursery for ailing pigs, sheep and calves.

Marilyn was raised with music and in later years she could be seen pulling into Tim Horton's in her red Ford Truck, or red Mustang with country music playing.

She enjoyed a roaring game of 45's and the occasional gaming machine. Marilyn enjoyed curling throughout the Maritimes as a member of the Amherst Curling Club. She also spent some years as part of the Amherst Bowling league.

Marilyn faced many challenges in her life with these last few years being her most difficult.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter Dorothy Bennett (Carl Vance), Lower Five Islands; step grandchildren, Amber and Stephen; step great grandchildren Keilee, Brooke, Oliver, Georgia, Lucy, and Henry; sisters Carol Thompson, BC, Gail Tower, Sackville, NB, Brenda Matthews, Kamloops, BC; brothers Kenneth (Judy) Thompson, Frank (Lorraine) Thompson, Brian (Sharon) Thompson, Darrell (Michelle) Thompson, all of Prince George, BC.; sister in law, Edith Fisher and best neighbour Garnet Trenholm, who was thought to be an important part of this "Carter" household.

She was predeceased by her husband George F. Carter, brother Murray Thompson; sister Annie Laurie "Tootie" Thompson and mother and father in law Dorothy and Walter Carter.

Arrangements are under the care of Jones Family Funeral Centre, Amherst, NS, 902-667-8777. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at the Fort Lawrence Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in memory of Marilyn may be made to the charity of your choice.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Kyle Timothy Lee Wheaton, age 36, of Amherst. Kyle passed away with family and friends by his side on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in Amherst, he was the son of Shelley Wheaton.

In Kyle's younger years, he worked at the YMCA. He enjoyed a good game of racketball and was pretty great at it too. He moved to Moncton for a while and went to Oulton's College where he studied business. He later moved back to Amherst to be closer to family. He loved spending time with his family, whether talking on the phone (often with his MOM and NANA), texting, or having a bite to eat. One of his favorite things was cruising around with his Uncle Stephen in his V8 Mustang. When you saw one, you saw the other. . . like partners in crime, so to speak. He loved to laugh, joke around, and torment his mother about how many Christmas ornaments she had around her home. Although in his later years, he did not feel well, he always greeted you with a smile, a kind hello and genuine concern about how things were going for you.

His faith in God was very important to him and it showed in his gentle character. Those who had the privilege of meeting him would always say that he was such a kind and pleasant young man... he was indeed.

Kyle will be fondly remembered, loved and dearly missed by his mother Shelley Wheaton of Amherst, NS; grandparents Dianna and Jack Wheaton, Joggins, NS; Aunt Lynn Wheaton, Amherst, her children Joel Wheaton (Abby Brown), Alicia Wheaton Boyer (Brandon Boyer), Lily Gilbert; Aunt Wanda Robinson, her children Tiffany O'Brien (son Erik); Lacey Robinson and Matthew Robinson; Aunt Tammy Wheaton (Jonathan Spence); Uncle Stephen Wheaton, Uncle Jackie Wheaton (daughter Jacquelyn); Aunt Crystal Wheaton (son Taylor); Aunt Linda White Foster (Howie Foster).

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate Kyle will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 2 pm, Pastor Andrew Reid officiating, at the Gospel Light Baptist Church, 25 Hickman Street, Amherst, NS.

If so desired, donations in memory of Kyle may be made to help with his funeral expenses.

Kyle's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the kindness and compassion towards Kyle.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Kyle's online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre page.

Christopher Leggett, 41, passed away on April 13, 2026 in Amherst Nova Scotia. It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Greta Ruth MacLeod, age 90, of Truemanville, NS. Greta passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Born in Hillsborough, NB, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Lillian (Jonah) Terris.

Greta talked often about her childhood in Albert County, returning yearly for her annual fall tour where she would relive her stories she cherished so much.

As a teen, the family moved to Oxford, Nova Scotia where she attended high school. It was here that she met the love of her life, Donald MacLeod, of Port Philip. Married in 1956, they moved to Moncton where they raised their family of four children. On retirement, they returned to their beloved Cumberland County, residing in Truemanville for more than 30 years. Family was everything to Greta. She and her five sisters were close. Their laughter and shenanigans were always present. She instilled in her children the importance of maintaining family ties. It is because of her that we have remained a close group.
