It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Todd Andrew Gray, age 52, of Amherst, NS. Todd, also known as Archie, passed away after a lengthy illness at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Hazen and Jean (Porter) Gray.

Todd lived a simple life. He loved the outdoors where he spent as much time as possible fishing and hunting. He enjoyed animals and shared a special bond with Buddy, his sister's dog. Todd adored his niece, Bambreigh and was so proud of her. Of course, he also doted on his only sibling, Cindy. They were Irish Twins so it's understandable there was a bit of sibling rivalry at times! They were always there for one another.

Todd had a huge soft heart and was liked by many. His smile was contagious and he loved a good joke. He was a good friend, loyal and generous.

Todd suffered a workplace injury many years ago and he did his best not to let his health issues make him bitter. If a life well lived can be measured in acts of kindness, mission accomplished.

Archie will be dearly missed by his sister Cindy Gray (Bryan Porter), Warren; their daughter, his niece Bambreigh Porter; his many friends; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where cremation has taken place. There is no visitation or service.

Donations in Todd's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Todd's online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre page.

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Douglas Burpie Whalen of Lower Cove, NS, on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of the late George Merton and Evelyn (Gower) Whalen.

At the age of 50 Doug wrapped up his long career at the NSLC and went on to enjoy every minute of his hard-earned retirement.

Doug loved playing and watching all sports. And when it came to his sons, he never missed an opportunity to travel and support them in whatever sport they played. Doug was a big kid at heart, and he loved planning vacations around the boys, which always included some of their friends.

When it came to animals, Doug had a huge heart. Along with the many pets he adopted over his lifetime, he always had a bowl of food ready for any strays that showed up.

You couldn’t help but love Doug and we feel so blessed to have had this wonderful man in our lives. These sweet memories of him will always be held in our hearts.

Doug will be missed by his best friend and wife Debi, sons Darren and Nathan (Shelley) and grandson Gavin Whalen; he also leaves behind his brother-in-law Bruce (Darlene) Brown, his good friends Dave and Jimmy, and his best buddy Sully the cat.

Along with his parents, Doug was predeceased by many much-loved relatives, including Aunts Rita, Clara, Berlin and Hazel who was like a second mother, Uncles Cecil, Nick, and Vernie; his cousins Curry, and those who he considered his sisters; Kathleen, Bev, Regina and Veronica. Stephen McCormick was like a younger brother to him, and we can only imagine the reunion!

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). At Doug's request there will be no visitation or service.

Donations in Doug's memory may be made to a charity that you think he would be proud to support.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Doug's online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre page.

After a life well lived, Marina Margaret (Griffith) Russell passed away peacefully at High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, NS on February 28, 2026. Marina was born November 4, 1934 in Lachute, Quebec to Allan and Irene (Rogers) Griffith, the second of their three children. Growing up on the family dairy farm, the value of hard work was learned early and became a common theme throughout Marina’s life.

Before long she met her soulmate and love of her life, Keith Russell, and in 1954 they married in Lachute. Following short stints in Toronto, Halifax, and back to Toronto, they moved to Amherst and eventually settled in Amherst Point, NS raising their family of five children: Bruce, Peter, Steven, Roger, and Judy.

Marina was a stay-at-home Mom. She was good at it, she enjoyed it, and based on all reports she ran a pretty tight ship! Hard to imagine having any spare time with a young and active family, but church and community were always important, and volunteer roles took on increased importance.

As the years passed, Marina never looked for attention, but her family was very proud of the recognition she received from the Lieutenant-Governor for twenty-five years of canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She was also named a Life Member of the UCW (United Church Women) at Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church in Amherst, served as Chair of the Board of the Amherst Credit Union, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Amherst Co-op, the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Cumberland County Museum, in addition to being UCW Presbytery newsletter editor for many years and volunteering countless hours to the Cumberland North Liberal Association.

In addition to her volunteer activities, Marina attended Mount Allison University during the1970s/early 80s graduating with two degrees and a sense of pride and personal accomplishment. She had been valedictorian of her high school graduating class and finally satisfied her desire to attend university "some day".

Not surprising perhaps with five children, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, Marina was a prolific knitter and seamstress. Dozens of toques, scarves, mitts, wool socks, and sweaters were worn by all and beautiful afghan blankets were handmade in the colour of your choice for every grandchild and great grandchild for as long as she was able. The single most incredible project however might have been the Christmas she sewed matching dresses for three granddaughters and their Cabbage Patch dolls. What a hit!

Marina actively loved her grandchildren, was a very positive presence in their lives and a great role model. She was always interested in their stories and activities and seldom missed a graduation ceremony. Marina took a lot of family pictures over the years as children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren grew up. Her family photo and video collection was prolific and freely copied and distributed to family far and wide.

Over the years, Marina had the opportunity to travel and with camera in hand enjoying trips to England, Ireland, France, The Bahamas, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and many places in between. A life well lived!

Marina is survived by her children, Hon. Bruce (Mary), Ottawa ON, Peter (Heather), Wolfville NS, Dr. Steven (Claire), Truro NS, Dr. Roger (Dr. Catherine Aquino), Amherst Point NS, and Judy (Richard) Luton, Fredericton NB, as well as her grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth (Dr. Colin Bell), Calgary AB, Alexander (Kristin), Middle Sackville NS, Lisa Nicol (Josh Johnston), Manotick ON, Sarah, Kuujjuaq PQ, Sacha (Joel) Stoddart, Kentville NS, Jennifer, Ottawa ON, Adam (Tracy), Airdrie AB, Nicholas (Melissa), Brookfield NS, Stephanie (Jon) Totten, Dartmouth NS, Catrina Russell-Dolan (Luke) Apohaqui NB, Dr. Allison (Daniel) Bernardi, Sackville NB, Daniel Luton, Calgary AB, William Luton, Kentville NS, and 22 great grandchildren, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marina was predeceased by her loving husband Keith in 1999, brother Rexford Griffith and sister Eunice Shortt, and brothers and sisters-in-law Joan Griffith, Stan Shortt, Frances and Dr. Lionel Funt, Doris and Chesley Lockhart, and Rev. Stewart and Bette Russell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A Celebration of Life will be held in Marina’s honour at 2 PM on Saturday, March 14/26 at Trinity-St Stephen’s United Church, Amherst NS with a reception to follow in Heartz Hall. The service will be recorded and posted on the funeral home website once it becomes available (www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca)

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, Camp Ta-Wa-Si, or the UCW at Trinity-St Stephen’s United Church.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Eric Ross Wilson, age 59, of River Hebert. While surrounded by his loving family, Eric passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Dara and Lois (Jarvis) Wilson.

Eric grew up on the family farm in River Hebert where he gained his love of animals, the outdoors and gardening. The farm lifestyle taught him what hard work and dedication was and how to implement it into his life. He enjoyed doing 4-H as a kid and won many awards for his gardening capabilities. He enjoyed being able to continue working on the family farm after he grew up, helping to milk the cows when needed or haying. Tinkering at this or that was one of his favourite things to do, which could include doing home renovations, building things or anything that involved his hands.

Eric loved being busy which led him to his careers in trucking and construction. He spent many years as a long-haul truck driver going all over North America hauling all types of loads with the "big bad ugly" loads being his favourite. He then moved into construction where he loved being able to run heavy equipment, especially the excavator for companies such as Carter’s and Melanson’s. He finished his career by becoming an Inspector for the DOT at the Outbound Scales.

Eric will always be remembered for his kind, loving nature. He would do anything he could for anyone, helping others and being selfless were some of his best qualities. He loved his family and was the best dad that anyone could have dreamed of. His at times serious nature was balanced very well with his goofy side, where you could catch him making a goofy face for a picture or trying to make others laugh. He will be missed by so many and in so many ways.

He will be dearly missed by his partner Jocelyne Chiasson, River Hebert, NS; his girls Jessica (Mitch), Amherst, and Brooke (Parker), Amherst; step children Marie-Eve (Patrick), Calgary, AB and Alex at home; grandchildren Jonah and Weston; siblings Roy (Charlene), River Hebert, Sheila (Gordon), Burton, NB, Jay (Sonya), Amherst, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

He was predeceased by his sister Serena Matheson as well as her daughter Nicole.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. His funeral service will be held at the Jones Family Funeral Centre on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 2 PM, Rev. Carolyn Wilson-Wynne officiating, all are welcome to attend.

Casual dress is encouraged as anyone who knew and loved Eric knew he hardly ever dressed up.

Eric's family wishes to thank the staff at the CRHCC who became like family during their Dad's extended stay and the caring and compassionate Palliative Team who did everything they could to keep their Dad comfy.

Donations in Eric's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or 4-H Nova Scotia.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Eric's online memorial at www.jonesfamilyfuneralcentre.ca or through the Jones Family Funeral Centre page.
