Thank you very much for your interest in our study 'Public Health Nurse-Delivered 1-Day CBT-Based Workshops for Postpartum Depression (PPD) Symptoms'. The workshops are a day-long intervention and are being offered as part of a research study, the purpose of which is to determine whether these works...

McMaster University is conducting a research study to determine if women who receive an online peer-delivered CBT-informed support intervention for postpartum depression improve more than women who receive standard care.
Women who are eligible for the study are randomly assigned to the intervention group or to a control group. The intervention group participants are offered a 9 week online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-Informed support, in group format, delivered by trained peer facilitators. The control group participants do not receive the CBT-informed support but continue to receive usual healthcare available from any healthcare provider.
You may be eligible if you are living in the Brant/Hamilton/Niagara/Haldimand Norfolk/Kitchener-Waterloo regions, are 18 yrs+ and have a baby under 12 months of age.
Time to wrap up 2021 with a little Peanuts-themed workout for my young and young-at-heart patients!
This year has had many challenges, but there have been bright spots. So many of you overcame huge obstacles. It has been my privilege to be a small part of your success.
I hope the coming weeks find you all happy and healthy.
See you in the new year!

Toolbox Tuesday: the Dilator!
Dilators can be helpful for vaginal pain due to scar tissue or muscle tension. Sensitive muscles and skin need a lot of time to get used to a stretch feeling, and dilators work well with therapy to get the job done.
No one should have to tolerate painful, tight muscles or painful s*x. Just no.
For the trans community, it can be an essential tool following gender-affirming surgery.
It’s been a stressful year, which can impact pelvic floor tension just like the rest of the body. You’re not defective if you need to use a dilator - lets normalize needing a little help with this kind of stuff.
DM me or ask your doctor if a dilator is right for you.

Took a social media break. What’d I miss?
Does daily posting resonate with you? Not me.
During my (long) break, I took care of:
💚 myself
💚 my family
💚 my patients
I missed connecting online, but changing algorithms and my limited personal bandwidth meant a necessary break.
Will I post daily? Nope.
Will I cater to the algorithm? Not likely. I’ll stick to what comes up organically.
Will I post what matters to me and my patients? You bet.
What do you think? Was it worth the wait for some classic AC/DC?

To the mothers of babies both fur and flesh.
New moms, veteran moms, hopeful moms, reluctant moms, and absent moms.
It’s just a day, but the job is never ending. Alternating worry, exhaustion, and joy. It is hard and wonderful and all of the things.
Whatever it is to you,

Shout out to my c-section warrior mamas!
To the bodies who have endured a major abdominal surgery and then still managed to care for a newborn … I salute you. Even with help, it is not an easy time for anyone.
My perspective as a clinician is interesting. Behind closed doors, the rawness and realness comes out.
“I’m angry that my body failed me.”
“I’m disappointed because I didn’t truly give birth.”
“It’s so hard to do everything.”
“I wasn’t expecting problems like bleeding and leaking when I didn’t deliver vaginally.”
“Someone told me that my c-section was taking the easy route to parenthood.”
It’s okay to mourn the fact that things didn’t go to plan. Or to plan it and have unexpected feelings and experiences afterward. Your feelings are valid.
You kept your baby and your body safe. You did something amazing, which required the kind of bravery most can only imagine.
But healing will take time, be it physical or emotional. Medically, your body endured a LOT.
Ask for help when you need it.

Baby season continues with Birth Parent and Partner empowerment!
Did you know that Emerge Physiotherapy combines Physio and Doula techniques to help patients prepare for delivery? I am proud to provide a safe space for birth parents to express their concerns so that we can collaborate on a plan that is tailored to their needs.
The requests I hear most:
✨Birth mothers are overwhelmed at the daunting task of delivery and are looking for ways to have an empowering birth experience.
✨Birth partners are unsure of how to provide support during labour and delivery and they want concrete techniques to help their loved one cope with pain and conserve energy.
✨Experienced parents are keen to troubleshoot challenges from past deliveries like more effective pushing, alternate delivery positions, perineal massage, and general advocacy.
While I’m *way* too reliant on sleep to be a Doula (sorry!), it is my joy to help bring some understanding and confidence to the process.💪
I’m happy to provide care in-person, virtually, or in combination. Feel free to DM with questions or visit my bio for booking info.
In your opinion, what’s the key to an empowered birth experience? What matters most to you during labour and/or delivery?

That’s the thought which has occupied my mind since COVID-19 changed life as we know it.
I’m not an essential worker or front line medical staff, and I don’t have the resources to get medical supplies to where they are needed. But I am a Physiotherapist, and I do have the skills to help people make life a bit more comfortable during quarantine. Layoffs, routine change, and stress can all contribute to pain and disability.
Putting myself out there online is WAY out of my comfort zone. And yet, it is the very least I can do during this uncertain time. So, here I am, hoping to help the community using my skills. Let me help you emerge from this period a stronger, healthier person.
Free Physiotherapy. Online. Until May 15, 2020 at least. That’s it.
