A little bit of bayou spirit right here at Carrington Place! Our Mardi Gras celebration featured hearty chicken gumbo, colourful yellow, green, and purple Jell-o, and hurricane drinks topped with a cherry for good measure. Safe to say, we let the good times roll!

From all of us at Carrington Place, we’d like to wish you a very Happy Family Day.

What a wonderful way to show a little extra love! ❤️

We celebrated Valentine’s Day over two special days. First, we hosted our Valentine’s Social, welcoming members of the community and the wonderfully entertaining Dave Burden. Add tea, coffee, and delicious red velvet cake, and you have all the ingredients for a winning afternoon. Special thanks to Laura from Queen of Hearts Vendor for coming out and wowing us with her one-of-a kind creations.

The celebration continued with a mouthwatering chicken parmesan dinner, followed by chocolate-covered strawberries. It’s safe to say everyone was truly feeling the love.

Stewart Memorial Church. Local black history.

The Stewart Memorial Church is Hamilton, Ontario, Canada’s oldest Black congregation. It was established in the 1830s as St. Paul's African Methodist Episcopalian Church, and moved to its current site on John Street in 1879 after its original location on Rebecca Street was destroyed by a fire. Abolitionist Josiah Henson, who inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, was the church's first pastor.[1] One of the most prominent figures in the history of Stewart Memorial Church was the Reverend John Christie Holland. Holland played a major role in keeping the church open when the congregation was faced with financial difficulties during the Great Depression. In 1937 the church decided to sever ties with the African Methodist Episcopal body. This resulted in the formation of a non-denominational church, renamed in commemoration of the previous reverend, Claude A. Stewart.

Since its establishment, the church has served a central role in Hamilton's Black community, providing various social, cultural and religious programming. Prominent members of the church have included Ray Lewis, the first Canadian-born black Olympic medalist, and Lincoln Alexander, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Canada's first non-white Member of Parliament.

This week we were in full bloom with Nancy at our floral workshop. While the snow may still be covering the ground, inside we were welcoming spring with these stunning arrangements. Everyone did an amazing job. It’s impossible not to smile when surrounded by these beauties— and the flowers were lovely too!

Celebrating Black History Month by honouring a very special woman — my Auntie Ona. She lived an incredible 99 years, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and courage.
Thank you, Auntie Ona, for paving the way for so many nurses of colour and for inspiring generations through your dedication and care. Your impact will never be forgotten.

Nothing warms the heart quite like a day out at Ancaster’s Peach Coffee Co. ☕

This charming little coffee house is full of character, and the menu is just as delightful. A cozy atmosphere, great treats, and good company made it a visit to remember. Definitely a spot worth returning to again soon.
