I love to learn 🤓📚💻 🧠
Disclaimer: I will never claim to know more than you, as the client, because you’re always going to know more about your experience than I ever will. I try hard to understand it, though.
I have been advancing my practice since I started practicing clinically about 4 years ago. I value research and evidence-based practice, therefore I have spent many hours engaging in formal training, education, self-learning, & learning from clients and colleagues. Most of these courses have been accompanied by supervision and consultation, which is where the real learning happens! 🤝🏻
I’ve been in the field for 10 years & spent the first 5 working as a social worker in a government system, providing me with a foundation of valuable system knowledge & advocacy skills.
In case you might be interested in knowing more “technical stuff” about my approach, I have training in various therapies including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Motivational Interviewing, CBT for Substance Use, Trauma-Focused CBT (treatment for PTSD in youth), Good Psychiatric Management (GPM) for personality disorders, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also have engaged in training related to treating OCD, addressing forensic/anti-social attitudes & behaviours, & utilizing the CRAFT model for supporting others with substance use concerns.
I often draw from several approaches to best fit your individual needs and I ALWAYS consider your environment and experiences.
Over the next year or so, I plan to advance by completing Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).
When I’m not spending time learning and advancing, I focus on my own health and wellness and filling my cup - walking the talk that I talk!
