I am holding space for my dear family, friends, community members, and clients who are neurodivergent or have loved ones who are.
You may be reading media headlines right now that are making dangerous and false claims that the consumption of acetaminophen during pregnancy causes autism. Like me you may have also read between the lines and seen the erroneous underlying message that there is a need for the prevention of autism.
Besides the main claim being scientifically proven totally false, I want to make the point loud and clear that no one in their right mind with even a rudimentary understanding of compassion or decency would ever make such a heartless statement.
If you're an autistic or neurodivergent person I want you to hear my words now! Your existence has never needed to be prevented. You belong. I want you here. There is nothing wrong with you. YOU ARE A MAGICAL MIRACLE AND A BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO THE WORLD. I want you to know I wouldn't change anything about you. I want you to know that you are important and deeply needed. You are enough, you are loved and I admire and accept you just as you are.
These fopdoodles and chuckleheads who write headlines like this, or prattle on and fearmonger are actually terrified of you because you are different than them. That's an age old destructive human deficiency based in total ignorance and not your burden to carry.
You just keep being amazing you. Through your very existence you challenge narrow mindedness, bigoted comfort zones, ignorance and fear. You make the world a better place just by being in it. You are never alone. I stand among the countless numbers of people who are shoulder to shoulder with you, who want change, awareness and compassion to prevail.
Also, a huge shout-out to the AMAZING parents who selflessly gave their bodies, laboured in pain, lovingly delivered and who nurture a neurodivergent child. I see you and you are so awesome. The only thing Tylenol did was provide you with fever and pain relief.
Love each other, folks! Hone your intelligence and discernment. Don't let fear win.
Please drop a ❤️ in the comments if you love someone who is autistic or neurodivergent and/or want to show your support and solidarity.
