Back in the office as of yesterday for everyone with appointments who are able to get out. Please be advised that the back parking lot has about 1/4 of the usual spaces available due to very large snow piles. I apologize for the inconvenience and understand that this will inevitably lead to delays for some getting to their appointments. Stay safe out there!

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted, but I am back with some big news! Buckle up, this is going to be a long one, but I promise well worth the read 😊

Over the summer I have been working on a very exciting project that is happening TOMMOROW Saturday, September 9 between 1 and 4pm.

That event is a Wellness Crawl for new and returning StFX students! Over the years and places I’ve worked in wellness I have always been aware that sometimes making that first appointment can be intimidating. You might not be sure who to reach out to, what services are appropriate for what you have going on, or you might worry about not knowing what to do or if the provider you connect with will be a good match.

In an effort to help eliminate that potential barrier to seeking care I instigated this event and with tremendous help and support from: Nepsis, everyone at the Antigonish Wellness Collective, Health and Wellness Dept, Matt at CrossFit Acuate, our generous sponsors Antigonish Chamber of Commerce and Antigonish Community Health Board and the long list of our amazing providers: am going to list them all below- it’s an impressive list of people and businesses who have stepped up to make this a really great experience for our X students!

So, what the heck is this and how does it work? Well, this Sat from 1 to 4pm, all our new and returning X students can have a look at this map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1lxwWUqfwlXpE5CdxYN9TY71bQZM0oH8&ll=45.617675815765665%2C-61.99300120000001&z=14 and decide which health, wellness and recreation providers they would like to go see. The route is self-determined, ,meaning you can go see one provider, some providers or check them all out.

When you look at the map, don’t forget to check out the description for a few details on what they might have to offer; but please note that not everything is listed there. You may find some surprises along the way!

All our providers have worked hard to come up with fun and engaging activities, swag, workshops and prizes. Collaborate on a wellness themed art piece at the Arts House, check out a spin class at Xcel, grab some period products and condoms from the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre who will be at our pop up site at the town library, sign up for a future meningitis vaccine clinic at Hines Pharmacy, learn how to borrow recreation gear from the Antigonish County Recreation Dept, or enter a ticket to win a sweet self-care gift basket from right here at the Antigonish Wellness Collective. Some providers will also be offering discounts on products, classes and services for students who participate in the Crawl so check in with all the providers you visit on what they have to offer!

In addition to all the great freebees and discounts, manual therapists and physical and recreation services on offer this is an amazing opportunity to connect with upwards of 10+ different mental health care providers and services, including therapists and counsellors who provide trauma therapy, SA and addictions counselling and psychological educational assessments.

You might notice that a few providers are a little far to walk to. If you don’t have wheels and don’t have a ride- no worries! We’ve got you covered. The Antigonish Community Transit is providing free transportation leaving from the town library. I will post the event bus schedule in the comments of this post below, and it will also be posted at the library. This transport was made possible by those great sponsors!

Now about all those providers; Here is the link for the Linktree with all of those providers listed. https://linktr.ee/antigonishwellnesscrawl2023 We’ll keep this up for the whole year so if you lose that business card or don’t think you need a service but realize later in the term you might want to connect with someone, you’ll always be able to come back to this Linktree and find how to connect with your providers.

I mentioned instigating this event, but I left out the part about that happening this past June, so it’s all come together very quickly. This is our beta test for this event so please grant us grace and know that we’re doing this because we care about you and your time here in Antigonish and want you to have everything you need to be successful. We would love to hear your feedback if you have any tips on how to make this a better experience in the future. You can let us know what you think here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0ergI4JkzvNWPyF4wxwpjkMnV_hsTbVPI7N9GO8mBSCJkiQ/viewform

If you are a new or returning X student or know one, we hope you will share this information with them and that you will take advantage of this great opportunity to come see us tomorrow!!

My power is starting to flicker, so in case it goes out before I can contact today’s clients: I am closing my office today December 13, due to road conditions. If I keep the power long enough I will be reaching out to those with appointments today regarding rescheduling. Stay warm and enjoy the snow day!

Well, my daughter was out doing the rounds with L'Arche Antigonish at the street fair (by coincidence wearing a Nepsis t-shirt!😂). She spends a lot of time making her puppets, and I spend a lot of time buying hot glue! ❤️😂 All worth it 💯

So happy to have her picture with Mayor Laurie Boucher! Happy Highland Games! antigonish_highland_games

The provincial health mandates have lifted which means some small changes in our office- the waiting area is now reopened, distancing is not required, but is recommended, COVID screening prior to appointments is now passive- meaning I don't have to ask or document but do ask that you stay home if you are sick. We are still going to keep up our cleaning and sanitizing, and due to the close nature of our work and the prevalence of virus in our region, my little friend and I are keeping our masks on in the office. I will also require you to wear a mask when you come in for your appointment. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Reopening effective Jan 2022.

If you have an appointment scheduled, please ensure that you have reviewed the COVID screening questions in your notification message prior to coming for your appointment.

I do not have a cancelation policy and there is no required timeframe for cancelling appointments.

If you are symptomatic, have been notified/or have identified for yourself that you are a close contact of a confirmed or presumptive positive case, or are required to self isolate for any reason: You will need to cancel your appointment and consult with public health information on your next steps. https://www.nshealth.ca/coronavirus

My online booking has been temporarily suspended while I work to reschedule those who had appointments in December.

For information regarding close contacts: https://www.nshealth.ca/information-covid-19-close-contacts

Your health, safety and wellbeing are important to me. I will continue to meet and exceed all Public Health approved COVID-19 prevention plans for my osteopathy and massage therapy associations.

Very grateful to report that my family, myself, and my coworkers have all had negative PCR tests!

That being said, close contact notifications continue to role out. Given the scope of the Covid situation here in our community, out of an abundance of caution, I am keeping my office closed for the remainder of this week.

I will be reaching out to those with appointments scheduled and will reevaluate on the weekend regarding next week.

I appreciate everyone's kindness and flexibility as we navigate these challenging circumstances, and I wish for everyone's safety and good health!

Should you find yourself struggling and requiring mental health support please see the number below for Nova Scotia's Mental Health Crisis Line.

Living in a small town means the degrees of separation between individuals is a little less.

Due to the number of exposures identified in Antigonish, out of an abundance of caution I am keeping my office closed for today.

Those with appointments scheduled for today have been notified, and I will reassess rescheduling and opening for next week as we learn more information in the coming days.

Thank you for your understanding!
