One of those rec play days where the vibes are high, the laughs are loud, and nobody cares about the score because everyone’s just having a blast.

Great rallies, questionable line calls (kidding 😜), lots of encouragement, and nonstop high-fives. Wins, losses, shanks, and highlight shots—all celebrated equally.

This is what great club culture looks like: fun, welcoming, supportive, and full of people who make the game better just by being out there. Couldn’t ask for a better group to play with. šŸ“šŸ’›

šŸ“£ DUPR Clinic Update + What’s Next

After a lot of thoughtful discussion, we’ve decided to pause the structured DUPR clinic for now and give players time to catch up recreationally, settle into their current level, and continue leveling up in a more organic way.

With that in mind, the DUPR clinic will be concluding, and Sundays will now shift to open play. As demand grows again, we’ll absolutely revisit another clinic series in a few months.

šŸ‘‰ Important note:
If you’d like to continue tracking DUPR, we encourage you to do so through self-arranged DUPR games—with partners and matchups that feel appropriate, competitive, and fun. DUPR works best when players have autonomy and intention around who they’re playing and why.

We ask that players who are running organized DUPR games continue to use Courts 5 & 6 on Sundays. Beyond that… let’s exhale, reset, and get back to the joy of the game. Consider this a fresh breath of pickle-air šŸ„’šŸ’Ø

Thank you to everyone who participated.
We also want to acknowledge that there has been some frustration at times—which is completely understandable given the wide range of skill levels within a relatively small player pool. Balancing fairness, competitiveness, and enjoyment is not easy, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and willingness to engage.

Moving forward, we believe this mix of open recreational play + privately arranged DUPR games is the best fit for our community right now. It gives players flexibility, ownership, and the freedom to develop at their own pace.

A Gentle (But Real) Reminder About DUPR šŸ‘€

DUPR is a tool, not the holy grail of pickleball.

It’s a snapshot based on limited data, specific matchups, and imperfect circumstances. It does not capture your full skill set, your growth, or your competitive potential.

Improvement isn’t linear—and it doesn’t always show up immediately in a rating. Trying new shots, playing with different partners, moving up in competition, or working on weaknesses can temporarily affect numbers even while your game is getting better. That’s not failure—that’s development.

What matters most is what you’re building:
• better decision-making
• stronger fundamentals
• confidence at the kitchen
• smarter shot selection
• problem-solving under pressure

Those are the things that win long-term—regardless of what a number says on any given day.

šŸ‘‰ Use DUPR as information, not identity.
Let it guide you… not define you.

Please share any feedback or suggestions. Your input matters and helps us shape what comes next.

And a huge thank you to Darren and Karen, who stepped up to lead this initiative. Running a DUPR clinic is no small task, and they did an amazing job navigating a very complex process.

We’re incredibly grateful for this community and excited for what’s ahead šŸ’™

Darren & Karen, DUPR Clinic Coordinators

P.S.
DUPR is a receipt, not a rƩsumƩ.
First to 11 wins the game… the long game wins the player.
And sometimes DUPR is just a bad selfie with poor lighting—interesting, but not the whole story.
Keep hustling. Stay true. Your game is AWESOME. šŸ’ŖšŸ”„

šŸ“£ Club Update from the Board

Our Board of Directors met recently and agreed it’s time to put focused energy into developing the policies, procedures, and governance structures that will guide our growing club.

āž”ļø Membership Pause (Not a Closure!)
We’ve temporarily paused both membership and non-member intake, which means new requests will be placed on a waitlist. To be clear—we are not closing the club. We’re simply slowing the flow of new intakes while we focus on supporting our current community.
Anyone who attempts to join during this time will be added to the waitlist and contacted directly, and we will endeavour to be exceptionally kind and communicative with those on the list as we move forward.

Please don’t worry if you have a friend or family member you’d like to invite, we will always make room for special invitations.

šŸ‘“ Safety Glasses – Effective March 1
Safety glasses will be mandatory for everyone. Court-specific eyewear is preferred, but inexpensive reading glasses (with lenses removed) are acceptable as long as the frame openings prevent a ball from passing through.

šŸ’¬ We Want Your Input
If you have thoughts on court use, hosting, conflict management, or governance, please take a moment to put them in writing. Our subcommittees are actively working on these areas, and your voice matters.

🚧 What’s Ahead
Some exciting projects are paused briefly while we focus on creating a solid policy and procedures document, along with updates to things like our website and court host policies. More to come soon!

šŸ˜… And finally…
If you see a Board member playing extra hard or sweating it out on the court, please let them burn off some steam—we’ve been working overtime behind the scenes so we can keep the club running smoothly and still enjoy a game.

Thanks for your patience, support, and for being such a great community! šŸ“šŸ’™

Merry Christmas from the Board of Directors of APC šŸ’š

As we wrap up the year, we want to pause and celebrate what an incredible year this has been for our club. This season was about growth, fun, connection, and friendships—both on and off the court.

Pickleball is more than a game. It brings people together across generations, skill levels, and every stage of life. It welcomes those who are new, those finding their footing again, and those who may have felt lonely before stepping onto a court and discovering community. Here, friendships form, confidence grows, and laughter is always shared.

This year, our President and Vice President have begun working toward the development of programs for youth and for seniors who may face barriers to mobility. We believe there is a real need for this in our community, and we are inspired to bring inclusive opportunities like these to our courts.

Thank you to our members, volunteers, and leaders for showing up with energy, kindness, and heart. You are what makes APC a place where people truly belong.

Here’s to another year of connection, movement, and happiness. šŸ“āœØ
